Long gone- bye bye all!
Hi all,

I got in the car the other day and drove off. Then when I looked at the central locking button on the dash, the red light on it was flashing. Does this indicate a fault? Anyway, I pressed the button to unlock the doors, then locked them again and its been fine so far...

And whilst we are on the subject of locks, am I the only one who is constantly opening the boot by mistake with the button on the remote? Why didnt they make this so you have to press the button twice??? Its easy to open the boot accidentally getting out of the car and not realise you have done it!!! :bang:

You may have locked the doors with the remote without realising. If you lock them wth the button on the dash you get a steady light.

I sometimes find that it is very easy to unlock the doors by mistake with the remote. A recessed button would have been better.

No, you're most certainly NOT the only person! The number of times I have started my engine (which sometimes involves wiggling the key a bit if the steering lock is on) only to have the boot pop open.

No fun to get out and close it in the recent weather we've been having (n)

Have the same problem myself too, as well as when trying to unlock the fuel cap. Bad design by fiat. On the Seat Leaon FR you have to hold the boot button down for a second or two for it to pop, not just a press like ours.

Its strange, the button on the dash needs to be held for a secon or two on the GP but not the remote key:confused:

I've never had a problem with unintentionally unlocking the boot - you guys must have thick & clumsy fingers :p

I would say my boot remote control key is actually slightly proud(er) than the door unlocking key.

Perhaps that's why it is constantly being pressed by my thick clumsy fingers (thanks Kev :p ).

It only needs a slight press and the boots pops open, no delay, no continuous press of the key required.

Happened today (how ironic) in the torrential rain as I was leaving work. I did laugh though when I thought of this thread...:D

Hi there - I was getting infuriated by accidentally opening the boot when starting the car too, and cursing the key design until I realised you can put the key in either way - if you just flip it over so the buttons are on the back, facing away form you, it's much harder to accidentally press the buttons. Not done it once since.

Also - the flashing of the central locking button...its a feature - I dind't want to pay for an alarm, so was going to just fit a decoy red led on the dash, but didn't really want ot drill a hole in my lovely new Sporting 130. The I discovered that oce you lock the doors with the remote, abut 10 seconds afaterwards, the steady red light in the button starts to flash - as a decoy LED! Well done to fiat for saving me the bother!

I shall try this tomorrow!

And, incidentally, I tried locking the car doors with the remote once the engine was running and it had no effect. Some kind of safety interlock?

The doors automatically lock after I drive away which is correct, however, the lock button continues to flash and this is not right but I don't know what the problem is. Also while driving, every once in a while there is one beep and nothing to indicate why?
