I’ve got an ‘08 1.4l 8v petrol and one in every 14 or so starts the battery light will come on and power steering will be completely out. The issue is always fixed by restarting the car but I’ve now noticed that as I’m driving the eps seems so dip and the steering gets a little more difficult. I replaced the battery and had the alternator checked at Halfords and their amps both read fine. Anybody experienced similar or could give any advice?

Hello,

If the battery has been replaced, I'd check the earth points and the earth cables (especially the one from battery to body and from body to engine / gearbox). Even if they look OK on the outside, I'd replace them anyway.

I personally am byuing a good quality copper cable in a welding hardware store. They usually also have terminals and a crimping tool, so they can add them at the ends. You'll only have to add heatshrink tube to secure it.

SEARCH before starting another thread like that. There are dozens of threads like yours (battery light / steering off)!
You have still an electrical issue (alternator/main ground). Power delivery first, then you can mess with the steering unit (sensor etc.).
I don't believe in "Halfords" ability to really Diagnose a car, they did some quick check only with a stupid scanner, tester.
Also, brand new battery can be discharged or partially dried up, from sitting on the shelf for months (or years?).
