Hi All,

I have converted the basic Fiorino van to a mini-camper and wonder if anyone can help with a problem. I want to be able to open the rear sliding door from the inside and also to lock it. Does anyone know if a good locksmith can rig something up? Or any other solution?

Also does anyone have a link to a suitable central locking kit - preferably for all doors but at least for the front? I am a bit wary of the cheap Bulgarian universal ones - anyone tried them?

At the moment I have to wind down the front windows and crank an arm out to lock up at night (and it's quite awkward getting the key in) and the same to open the rear sliding door before I can get out. As you can imagine, this can look a bit naff on a posh campsite! Or anywhere in fact!

Many thanks for any suggestions

Hi,

I don't know if this helps but it does show (on a Bipper which is pretty much what we have only not as good  ) that internal door releases are a unit that's fittable to the sliding door.

It maybe that you have to change the door card to accommodate the release unit or perhaps there's a press out in the metalwork to fit it to..I've not been to look although I did think only this morning 'is there an internal release on my sliding door?' and I looked to see from the driver's seat but wasn't seeing one! I've got the door card off at the moment (sliding slam-contact issue from a month or so back) and it was only when I was working in the rear once, I thought I'd better leave one door open in case I got shut in. I did find though that there is an internal release on the back door so I wouldn't have been trapped. (I've left the door card off as I want to put soundproofing in there before I replace it.)

Rear sliding doors on the Qubo are the same as shown above on the Bipper. The release handles fit into a pressed shaped aperture in the door above the card, so I doubt they would retro-fit easily. All four doors and the tailgate lock operate on the central locking system and although possibly catered for in the harness, you would need all the hardware to make it work. You could fit one Qubo/Nemo/Tepee sliding door and operate it manually. It locks like the front doors by pushing the handle in.

Hi all
I have a bipper tepee
A link or cable has come loose on my rear sliding side door
How do you get the door card off
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the reply
I'm new to FF, is red van man a member or a specialist web site

LOL!!! Yeah I'm a specialist website! If you scroll up about 3 messages you'll see I wrote a bit back to the OP..

Removing the door card. I bought a so-called specialist tool from Machine Mart for about a fiver. Weird how it's for careful removal of card sets yet it it's made from steel. Check eBay for a set as you might find some hard plastic ones which would be more paint friendly from the start.
I put a couple of layers of masking tape on the prongs. Recommend you attack the card at the side or bottom first so that if it scratches paint then it's out of sight. Just go gently. I used the device to pop a retainer off then inserted other things in the new gap to maintain a space whilst I worked round undoing the rest of the poppers. I think there are 10 or so.

The cable mechanics are quite logical when you see them though the van is different from the car as the door stays open on an over-centre latch which only requires a pull on the door to release whereas on the car you have to pull on the handle as there's a cable latch on the retainer at the bottom.

HTH and thanks Charlie for the mention. Honoured! :)

Hi Milkybar332006,
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Qubist/Fiorinoist, enjoy the forum, lots of experience and advice on here............

Cheers Qube O.

I'm confused:bang:
My van has a door handle on the inside, and if you push it in as with the front doors it locks.
I thought that all the vans had handles on the inside of the sliding door

Just a thought, i just had a look on ebay and there are loads of fiorino's and bippers on there with sliding doors perhaps that would be the way to go regarding all the parts you need?
