Well first real fault with the girlfriends '04 1.2 Dynamic, 20k on the clock.

Locking the car with the key in the drivers door results in the usual clunk from the car locking and then immediately another clunk with it unlocking.

Try the doors and the drivers door is still locked, but all the others are unlocked. I can manually close the rear doors by pushing the lever in and closing the doors, but on the front passenger door this doesn't work - i can push the lever/handle in and close the door but its still not locked ?

My immediate thought was the actuator in either the drivers door or the passenger door, but i would have thought failure of either of these wouldn't account for the inability to manually close the passenger door. I'm not sure the drivers door has an actuator either since its not remote locking and this door has the turning of the key to move the locking mechanism.

HELP !!!! - whilst we live in the sticks and the office car park is secure i don't want it unsecured in town car parks at weekends etc

It sounds as if the metal link from the inside handle of the passenger door that connects to the lock mechanism has been dislodged? (Or, maybe the passenger door simply hasn't shut properly...) If you can't lock it from inside manually, this suggests there's something amiss. This 'resistance' may also be preventing the central locking from doing its job, so it unlocks again to alert you to the fact that it failed.

If you lock the car but something's not shut properly (or it can't lock for some other reason) it normally unlocks all the doors again. Maybe because the key is still in the lock it can't unlock the driver's door again?

Second reply. I don't think you can manually lock the front passenger door when its open. You need to shut the door and then lock it from inside. As a short term fix, if you can get the passenger door locked this way, you could then disable the central locking by removing its fuse, and lock the driver's door from outside with the key.

DraigFlag87;check for seatbelts in the way said:
Oh yes it does - turns out there was about a quarter of the seat belt width trapped in the rubber door seal of the nearside rear passenger door (thank the 6 yr old for that !) - not an awful lot of obstruction and it certainly didn't affect the shut line of the door but it was enough for the system to detect an issue !

So no fault & no repair cost (y)(y)

There you go! some of the most baffling things turn out to be quite simple in the end. My car did the same when the door was not shut properly (just on the safety latch) i pressed lock, it locked then instantly popped open again. I know i already said that above. Glad it was so simple anyway!

Correct. You'd have difficulty from locking it outside as there isnt a lock on the door handle :p
