Hi
Central locking started playing up a few days ago and while I can get all the doors to lock I have to press the fob button 4 times (always 4 without fail!?)
When it started I just thought one of the doors was slightly opened so checked them and found they were closed and the same thing happened everysince.
I can press the fob button and for the first 3 attempts can hear the locks click closed then open on the car then theirs a pause where i can press the fob as many times as i like for 5secs without anything then bang 4 click of the locks and the car is locked.

I'm also having the trouble starting in cold weather (and clock reset twice) and from reading on here people seem to think that thats a battery problem so I'm wondering if the central locking problem is linked?

Any insight would be appreciated

Many cars re-synchronise their immobilizer / batteries by pressing the lock/unlock several times after the battery has been disconnected. My last 3 cars have.

You may have a bad connection to the battery but the fact that there is sufficient power to actually start the car makes me wonder if it is just the power connection to the central locking module or the module itself that is at fault.

Do all the doors lock / unlock properly if you use the key in the door? If this is fine then it may be the remote sensor.

even if i use the key the in the lock the same thing happens. This applies if i use the fob key or the non fob key.

Once it does lock though yes all 4 doors and boot lock fine, and it only ever takes one press of the fob to unlock them, but 4 to lock them.

Go for the quick "fix" and charge the battery up, see if it makes a difference - at least it'll eliminate that and might even reveal the fault.

Finally got round to charging the battery after months of driving round with the problem, only to find that even with a fully charge battery the problem remains.

I do think now however that the problem lies with the drivers door as sometimes the car will click once (as in locked) after 2 or 3 trys of the fob (or even turning the key) but when you try to open the door it opens a little as if theirs a double lock on the door but only 1 is locked. Also the window has gone to the same door so I'm wondering if its possible that theirs no or not enough getting power getting to the door?

As for just the window I've tried changing the drivers fuse with passenger side fuse and the windows still doesn't open but the same fuse opens the passenger window

Sounds like the driver's door isn't latching properly maybe? Do the indicators rapid-flash when the locking doesn't work? Is it trying to tell you that the driver's door isn't shut (even though it may look it?)

I was told at the weekend that the original pandas had a metal part in the locks that was swapped out for a plastic one in later models. I've no idea if that's true/relevant however!

Hi
No the indicator just clicks closed/open along with the sound of the lock, not the quick flashing that you get if you try to lock it with a door open.

Problem sold!! Somebody drove into me (drivers side aswell) and car is a write off.
Only plus side is 2 weeks before MOT was due.
Thanks to all who replied

Bit drastic, I've hit things with a lump hammer before now, but never considered using another car!
Hard lines, hope your insurance makes a proper settlement for you.
