Hi all,

Been searching and not really found an exact answer to this one.

I have a 03 plate Stilo 3 door JTD Dynamic trim level. Sometimes the display on the radio goes all haywire(generally while parked up with ignition off on the 20 minutes mode.) A simple turn it off and on again will cure this, but the last time it did it, I noticed it said 'MP3' on the bottom of the LCD display while all the things it can say were flashing on and off again. Now, it doesn't say MP3 anywhere on the outside front of the stereo anywhere.

Out of curiousity last night I chucked some MP3s on a CD and popped it in the CD player this AM.

The display on my stereo said CD ROM after it read the disc for a second and it sounded like it was spinning up the disc. However, no sound ever came out of the speakers. Hitting the next button would make the player spin the disc up again like it was trying to skip the track, but no sound ever came out.

My question really is does my CD player play MP3s and this is just an issue with the formatting of the disc- ie I burned the disc with the windows standard file burner as I have no proper burning software ATM and had no control over using Joliette and disc at once etc, or does my CD player not play MP3s and if that's the case, why does it recogize the CD ROM? Just don't want to burn 10 coasters trying to find out the answer so if anyone knows, would be greatful.

Apparently so, however, I think there is an issue with strict filenames and format. I'm pretty sure that there was a discussion on here about it recently.

So you think is is MP3 compatable but the file names need to be strict?

Can anyone point in direction of this file naming thread? Would like to download something like Nero and try again this evening :) Not really interested in aftermarket cd player as I park in some less than stellar areas on the street during my work day so I don't need anything that makes my car look attractive to break into. So my only options seem to be fit a CD changer or get this MP3 thing going if my CD player can do it, as from what I've read on here my odds of fitting a hard wired line in for my MP3 player are nil with the head unit I have and FM transmitters in my car are Pi$$ poor.

Its not the connect Nav+ or anything just a regular CD player with no CD changer. Says compact disc on the right but no logo for MP3 on it anywhere.

It deffinitly can say MP3 on the display. Whether its some sort of generic display that goes in multiple stereos I dunno. But it also recognized the disc as a CD ROM because it said CD ROM on the display. It didn't give an error code, which it does sometimes when I pop a scratched disc, or an empty disc in by mistake. I guess all I can do is burn another disc tonight in proper burning software and make sure to name the files without any punctuation and see what happens.

Fingers crossed. I love my car other than the lack of ability to have more than 20 songs at a time on the go.

The display is standard for all radios. Mine has mp3 on the display as well. Cannot play any, of course, because it lacks the decoder and hardware capabilities. :)

If it doesn't say mp3 on the front, then it won't play mp3s? Or am I missing something here...any CD player will try and fire up an mp3 cd if its put in, but won't be able to read the CD. Could maybe potentially be a fault with the unit? I should think maybe the screens in the players were all standard and 'mp3' is on all of the displays, yet only lit up on the ones that actually accept mp3s...

Worth having a look at the model if you pull the unit out?

Mine plays MP3s, but it has an MP3 logo stamped to the left of the display. As i've only seen a handful of Stilos with it i presume it was an option.

New Bravos only have MP3 as an option too. Yet 500s get it standard, as do some Grande Puntos & Pandas. Makes no sence spec wise & probably has something to do with many Fiat stereos (Panda, Grande Punto) being Blaupunkt & Stilo & (i think) Bravo being Visteon.

It was an option after 2005 to get an mp3 capable visteon cd player. They all had standard screens though, probably visteon failed to produce it in time but designed it to be mp3 capable from the begining. Of course, it was an expensive extra and nobody would take it. I sure wish I could get my hands on one of those... :)
