I was thinking it was strange that I hadnt had a problem with the Stilo for, oooh hours, but then right on cue the connect nav decided it quite liked the cd it had in and didnt want to give it back to me.

Has anyone got any ideas how to retrieve it? Is it easy enough to take the unit out and get to it that way? Or do I take it to fiat and tell them to sort it out?

Its not even a good cd, thats the worst bit.

I've had a couple of CN+s apart for repairs to the switches recently. Whilst they were open I looked to see if there was an easy way to get a jammed CD out in case I ever had that problem.

I couldn't see any easy way but then I didn't want to risk damaging anything. The CD mechanism looks rather delicate and I think just pulling the CD out is liable to damage it further.

I doubt you'll find a Fiat dealer that'll want to open a CN unit. If you want to try it yourself, the CD mechanism is removeable after taking the CN top cover off. A new CD mechanism is avialable on eBay here:

This one has ended, but I believe the seller has several and relists it every few weeks.

Cheers Dave, Ill pull it out and have a look. The CD does come out slightly but not enough to grip onto, ill have a play with it. Then Ill go and bribe fiat.

Thanks,

To get a CD out manually, take the top cover off the CN+ and on top of the CD player you will see the eject motor at the right rear corner, held in with 1 torx screw. Remove the screw and the motor, then manually wind the gear wheel with a screwdriver or tweezers work well to.

mine is too old/cheap to have cn+ :( but it does have a cd changer that decided to eat a cd a while ago (for whatever weird reason it just released it after manually unplugging and plugging the changer back in - well not so weird actually as stilo does not cut power to the unit even with key out.. so it can’t reset - same applies to cn+ it is always powered and, if you are lucky, it will reinitialise after hard reboot and spit the disc out)

Just in case anyone else ever has this problem Ill put how I fixed it. The connect nav is slightly harder to get out than is sometimes written on here, though mine might just be a one off. It needed kebab skewers (ideally without the meat on) pushed into the holes with quite a bit of force to undo the clips. Then the system needed pulling to slide it out, it doesnt exactly glide out.

Once out there are 6 screws holding the plastic front on, once unscrewed this comes off and you can see into the CD deck. When eject is pressed the CD will go up and in the case of mine just bang a lot until you pull it out and throw it wildly across the driveway (the cd that is, not the connect nav).

Hope this helps if anyone finds it in a search later anyway,

The offical keys are the better solution and not expensive to buy. Unlike other retaining clips these are screw wind-in based retainers. You ca make your own with long studding as an alternative.
