Car History

Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Swing 3 door. Utter pile of crap, but I l,oved it.

Fiat Punto 1.7 TDSX. Quite brilliant. Hauled me all the way to Tuscany and back without drama.

Citroen ZX 1.4 Avantage. Not a bad car until I got a tankful of dodgy fuel:mad:

Citroen Xsara 1.9 TD. Faultless, but so dull.

Renault Clio 1.2 Mk2. Gearbox faults from day one. Rubbish car.

Fiat Brava 1.2 SX. Lovely car. Passed on to a friend when I left Ireland.

VW Golf Mk3 1.9 D. Slower than a slug on crutches, but incredible economy. Died when the MOT cost more to pass than the car was worth.

Volvo 340. Given it by a friend. Drove it twice. Loathed it. Scrapped it.

Citroen AX 1.0. 20 years old and only 30,000 miles. Another freebie. Sold after a year for £125.

Ford Fiesta 1.3 Encore. Basic but great to drive. Still got it as my commuter car for when the weather isn't bike-friendly.

Fiat Bravo JTD105 SX. Bought a few weeks ago. Mrs Prill's daily driver. Lovely car with a few minor niggles.

1.) Fiat Punto 75 SX - love this car, going to keep it and rebuild it :D

2.) Fiat Punto 60 S - Remarkably a fantastic engine. It seemed to be indestructible. Sold it for £180 more than I spent on it in total.

3.) Citroen Xsara 1.9 TD - Bland car, but the turbo is addictive, Boring to drive. Therefore im selling it. (y)

All 3 of those in about a year of driving (n)

It's been an eventful year. Still yet to crash, I find that quite good :D

1989 - 1990 W reg chevette (blistein suspension, piper 285 cam, weber dcoe, PMC dizzy, EARS (macclesfield ) exhaust). great fun, but needed a car with a boot that would take a wheelchair for a disabled family member

1990 - 1993 A reg cav sri (blydenstein A pack head, ansa exhaust, spax suspension kit) did around 70k miles in it, no mechanical problems, but was rotting back then!

1993 to 1996 G reg Cav 2.0 GLi Kept fairly standard, though fitted BBR starchip which did nothing, apart from reduce 40+mpg down to less than 30. did 90k miles in it, less than £100 in repairs on it

1997 to 2004 M reg Cav V6CDX. Wish I still had it, though 33mpg at today's petrol prices.... Very underrated car, and far better than the vectra v6. Omega 3lt inlet cams, scorpion exhaust. In a dark metallic grey colour, as discreet as it gets. Did 140k miles in it, again hyper reliable, but got through 2 alternators, a pain to replace.

2004 to 2009 51 reg punto JTD ELX. Once got through the initial niggles (wiper linkage, bottom pulley breaking up, dealer said this didnt happen often ,but had 6 in stock.....)was hyper reliable. again I did well over 100k miles in it. Unfortunately, I killed it. I was out hill walking near to lake vrynry, and when setting back, took a wrong turning, up a farm path, before I could turn round, I had ripped a hole in the sump! Fair play to the car,it actually ran for 6 miles with no oil in it whatsoever and a hole in the sump you could put your hand through! This was bought by one of the maintenance guys at work. He welded the sump up, new mains and big end shells, no other work needed. It was still running fine, with over 200k miles on it, until got written off last winter in a smash on the A556. Tough car!!

2009, for a few months. M reg cavalier sri16v. A complete shed, heavily bodged, didnt keep it long, when it was running right it was good fun though.

2009 to date. M reg astra 1.7TD (isuzu). Bought purely as a stop gap, but drives far better than I though it would, and is hyper reliable. Most expensive MOT bill has been £80. Ive decided to keep it until it gets unreliable, and batter my mortgage while interest rates are what they are at the moment. Not the most dynamic or sophisticated car ever made, but incredibly cheap to run.

Next car planned. I'm waiting for the price of mulitjet bravos to come down, or maybe the last shape Fabia Vrs
