Technical Car cuts out while driving, then CODE light stays

I wonder if anyone can help me, yesterday when i was driving the car it cut out for no apparent reason.
When i went to restart it, it would turn over but not fire up. I believe that this was because the CODE light was not going out.
The good guy from the RAC came to my rescue, although he did not know what the cause was. After disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it started fine light went out and everything seemed ok.
But the last night it happened again, tried what RAC man done and it started ok.
But what is causing it to stop??????

Imobiliser?........once the code light on mine stayed on but the engine stayed on and everything was normal [?] (I was crappin my pants wondering if the engine was gonna just cut out [8D])

yep sounds like an immoboliser prob. disconnecting the battery wipes the computer memeory and problem. but then it reurns again if not fixed. that is why rac started it and then it went wrong again.

Ok so it is an immobiliser problem, but can we fix it cheaply or is it gonna cost us hundreds???
Do i have to change all of the ecu or can i just change the unit under the dash??

Oohh... the same problem happens to me.... approximately once a month. The engine cuts of when I'm reversing or braking hard... and when I restart the engine, the CODE light stay lit on. But no prob about driving!
