Me and a few mates were tonight discussing our cars. There's only 5 of us interested in cars, the other lot are more into Big Brother and make-up...God help them.

Sooo. We had loads of booze, great night, but of course we were boasting about cars. ;)
We plan to take the cars on track to see whose is the fastest etc, but the argument didn't stop all night, so I'd like other people's opinions...

Now no doubt, we all have fast (ish) cars, but who's faster..?

The car list...(All have the "Usual" mods...exhausts, inductions etc.)

'98 Fiat Bravo 2.0 HGT. Claimed: 150bhp.
'94 Suzuki Swift 1.3 GTi. Claimed: 140bhp. With 7secs 0-60... (Yea, we laughed too.)
'92 Vauxhall Astra 2.0 GSi. Claimed: 180bhp.
'98 Peugeot 306 2.0 GTi-6. RR@189bhp.
'94 Hyundai S-Coupe 1.5 Turbo. Claimed: 150bhp.

Now you know the cars, who do you think is going to be quickest over 1/4 mile stretch?

None of us agreed all night.
I personally thought the GTi-6 would whip, but Paul thought his Swift GTi (We laughed again). The S-Coupe is a dark horse, the output he claimed is quite above any spec I could find on the Internet, it starts with 115bhp, all he has is exhaust, induction and BOV, really can't see how he expects 150bhp?

Anywayyy. It was a fun night and quite a good conversation, just thought I'd share it with the lot of you.

We are all young drivers and paying the high insurance, so can't expect the cars to be Supras or Evos, don't want to be dissed or anything though. :)

All the best!

well you have to take into account a few things.

Weight & high tourque will get you to 60mph quickly BUT lack of BHP will cause you to slow top end.

I think the Astra for a few reasons...

1) light weight
2) old so less modern engine restrictions
3) Hight BHP
4) they always were quick cars!!!

I think the HGT will do well also, as the 5pot really pulls well all the way to 130mph!

Hard to tell. As all of the motors are aged a little a lot will depend on how well they have been maintained/looked after,
All the bhp figures are 'claimed' and I doubt any will be correct. A car will loose a lot of its power through age/wear and tear on engine components after time. The only way to decide is on the strip.
In addition, reaction time and gear changes will also be a big factor. The fastest time does not neccesarily mean the fastest car. A fair bit will depend on the driver also.
Good luck, have fun but drive safe :)

alot of it will come down to the driver, but if you were to do a test of all of the cars with the same experienced driver my thinking would be

GTi-6
Bravo
Astra
Swift
Hyundai

The GTI 6 has my money, they are fast pretty mutch all the way to top end,and you chuck them around on the twistie's aswell.

i'm going to go with the 306 aswell, but i doubt if the HGT will be much behind.

sadly my 'mates' arnt into having powerful/tuned or even styled cars so i have to just talk at people about mine :(

from owning a gti 6 ith the same power i can defonatley say it would eat the rest alive,

the only other contender for me would be the hyundai tbh the astra with that power isnt much quicker than std and the 1.3 swift would have to be majourly tuned to get that and blow up half way down the strech lol
just out of curiosity what has the 306 had done?

the hyundai arent to be messed with they were very very fast in their day just like the 323 turbo's.

just my 2p

well that concludes it then....

306 Gti-6's are quick!!

oh and my cousin is a tit!!! how can that car not out drag my JTD!!!

I change my vote to the Pug 306 Gti-6 :)

(Mick) Not a lot I think, but from what I can remember the GTi-6 has Piper cams, ss 4-2-1 manifold, decat, K&N, full exhaust, can't remember what else, but there was other things. Was dyno'd on a really hot day apparently.

Didn't realise the GTi-6's were so fast. I thought my Bravo would be right up it's arse. :( (Mine sounds better. ner ner.)
Guess I can hope to compete with the Astra and the S-Coupe then, pretty obvious of the winner if all goes to plan.

not all gti-6's are that fast tbh some get thraaped within an inch of their life and are no faster than an s16 but i do agree that there is no comp when it comes to noise lol i luv my hgt more than any other car ive owned where thats concerned.

the 306 sounds about right though for a good condition phase2 mine was on bodies too but they give alot more mid range power on the 306, i seriusly wouldnt underestimate the hyundai though lol check them out on youtube

-306
-Bravo
-Astra

i think in that order. didn't really read the thread so if someone has already posted what would/did come first, excuse my laziness, lol.
