As an apprentice I was having trouble bolting the fan to the water pump on a classic mini (four 7/16ths bolts with hands jammed against radiator, finally gave up and removed the new water pump to find the threads hadn't been tapped in the pulley.
Yes, had experience of that before where castings and millings where the mounts were drilled but not tapped
Also had a batch of alternators, back in my PSA days where none of the ones in parts worked…I think they were valeo ones, for the talbot derived engine if memory serves.
Just recently, in fact over the last two weeks, I’ve replaced the kitchen sink trap three times, the fault being the same seal on the factory sealed (chemically welded) component. The Plumbers merchants were brilliant but it still meant return journeys
