help with 97 punto clutch

hi ev1 i just got a punto 55 p reg 1997 1.1

engine starts but wont go in gear possibly clutch plate but the hose to the cylinder is very worn and cracked could a leak in this hose stop clutch system working ?
is there any chance it could just be the hose and i wont have to buy a clutch kit just a hose

if it was physically leaking then obviously yes as the compressed fluid would take the nice easy shortcut
remember though clutches are like harmsters they all die in the end
