Hi Folks

Ignoring the calls of why would you and get a bigger enigine etc etc, I have a 1.4 12v Bravo (R plate), I have just one the cup for most points in class for the season at our grass track racing (beating 16v civics etc) and I think next year I need a bit more poke to defend the title.

Can you fit a turbo to this car? I can get manifolds fabbed up and so on but oil supply and electronics etc can it be done? If so anybody got some detailed diagrams of how a turbo is fitted. and finally...... thers a scrapped JTD up the road (4miles which is the closest scrapper by 20 miles) - do you think I can rob for the job?

Cheers

Dave

can you nos or supercharge?

I don't know how strong the 1.4 is as an engine, and I don't think any1 has ever done it.

The 1.8 use to have a turbo kit available but the company stopped making it :(

van aken did a kit for a 1.1 chinq and they do for the 1.4 punto.... so why not give it a go!!

Nothing is impossible! If you got your manifold made up to fit the turbo and lowered the compression ratio by fitting a thicker head gasket or maching the top of the pistons. Get the piping done to the intercooler and then to the intake. Maybe it would need bigger injectors and to run it all a programmable ecu. Probably would be expensive for a 1.4 !
Does your class limit you to a certain engine size?

1st thing id do it find out the capacity of the 1.4 turbo lump from the punto GT...maybe see if u can use the bottom end off that

use the piston rods....basicly all the internals from that and then bolt the turbo to it..that should give u the compression thats needed to hadle a turbo

or u can bolt a turbo to it and run it at low boost and gain around 20-30BHP...

as said..anything is possinle

I don't know a lot but would the punto 1.4 turbo lump fit in the bravo?

just a thought :)

yes.

there is a red bravo in brum that comes on ebay every other week with a 1.4 punto turbo conversion.

Can't understand why anyone would do the 1.4 turbo conversion over the 20v turbo - unless it's really simple or cheap!

I thought about doing a 1.4 turbo conversion. Nice and light and if you are limited by engine size it guess it'd work.

that's what I was thinking, if he is limited to engine size for his race class then it would be easier to transplant the 1.4 turbo lump rather then doing a turbo conversion yourself.

Like you said, the ecu would need mapping and things, but with the 1.4 turbo would have the ecu done already.

just a thought :)

Ye Ive seen that bravo on ebay. The drivrshafts needed shortening and id say the mounts did'nt match up either. But doing that would probably still be cheaper than turbo-ing the 12valve engine.

i thinkt he whole idea is the class he rallys in only limits him to a 1.4, if he goes bigger he needs to change class and go up against bigger boys with cossys and evos

Hi, thanks for all the responses. Yes if I go bigger then I have to go against the boys who put 2.5litre V6 vauxhall engines in the back of their corsa's, so want to keep my little Bravo. Having said that if anyone has a big Bravo they want to get rid of for pennies then let me know (and I mean pennies!!)

Basically I cannot afford another engine I live in the sticks in Wales so scrappers are at a premium and Fiats aren't well stocked. I only need to run it for a few years so if the extra power knackers the engine, oh well!!
So can I whack any old turbo to it or do I need to be a bit more specific (I am not that well versed in engines - I can do bolt on stuff but if I take complicated things apart I usually end up with a few bits left over.)

Many thanks

Dave
