Hi everyone...

Thank you to all that responded to my previous thread about my master cylinder.much appreciated.it was infact that and problem is completely sorted now... Only forr a new one to arise

ps if this thread is in da wrong place please move it to the appropriate forum if u like.my apologies in advance...

So...

Im driving a 95 fiat uno 1100.im experiencing loss of power when i accelerate or pull away.car is running sluggishly as if there is lack of fuel going thru to th combustion chmber.it started a while back so i serviced the car changed the plugs filters and oil.it ran well for a while after that.then problem returned.

so i did some research and changed my distributor cap.still no change.could it be the coil unit or the ecu unit sitting on the distributor?its gets quite hot and some1 mentioned to me it should not do that.i think it may be one of those items but im getting hesitant of buying new parts and then the problem still doesnt go away.for some reason uno parts even a spark plug are more expensive than golf parts.

Anyways if anyone can advise me if im on the right path please do so.what confuses me is one of the synptoms.if the coil is faulty the car is supposed to not accelarate over 30 mph?and swich of during driving?well i can accelerate but it is sluggish and i have to accelarate quickly ie push th pedal deeper to accelerate smoothly otherwise car shudders.and car switches of while idling,it did so only a few times but car swithes of easily when idling cold...

If its not the coil the ecu maybe?or something else?

The transistors of the ignition unit wear because they sit on a hot place.
They are cheap to replace if you know something about soldering.

On the other hand the butterfly-valve potentiometer also causes trouble when
it´s old. You´ll have to replace the whole unit if so.

You should have cleaned the ignitor to the professional or just like as me
you can do it yourself easily,,, You can clean ''gaz regulator ( butterfly throttle) by this product (i used it)
http://www.hepsiburada.com/Liste/ProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=26001&productid=otm090018

first demount the air filter than spray the carburator cleaner when the ''gaz regulator '' is open (not running) than repeat this 4-5 times,
then run the engine without waiting it to be dried.
You should try at least :)

thanx banker but i doubt that exact product can be found in s.a.will look for something similar tho and give it go.as for the vacuum advance il have a look for that first thing in th morning thanx for the advice

Th carb cleaner seems to be having a effect thanx for that recomendation.hope im not counting chickens tho.gona go for a long drive tonite and see what happens

big problem.what i say bout counting chickens.now a few hours later car cooled down and now it wont start at all.it swings but wont start.what i did was i sprayed the outside where it was dirty and a little bit on th inside while engine running at over 2500revs.like the instructions on th can says.it had great effect i still drove with it for a while after that.whats wrong now?somebody plz help im baffled

No all i did was spray some carb cleaner.its the next morning now and it still wont.im getting very worried now.i have no idea why is this happening

I think all Unos in South Africa have carburettors except for the Turbo models. I think they also have the simpler type of breakerless ignition setup as used on '87-'89 Uno 60/70 models elsewhere in the world.

I believe the carburettor cleaner spray and then non-running is a complete red herring (a misleading coincidence); I reckon you have a failed module (the infamous finned box, also used on Uno 45 models) on the distributor. An engine bay picture or three would be useful just so we know which type of distributor/ignition system it has. If it is the later type fitted to 1372cc European Unos, then perhaps you have a crank sensor problem (or its connector).

Test for spark at the lead that goes into the distributor - remove the lead and use pliers to hold it somewhere near the engine while someone cranks the engine over. If no spark, then try that module swap.

Its a carb version bud...

Yes alex it seems it may hav been just a coincidence. this morning i checked for spark and it is sparking.so i was also thinking the module coz a while back my buddy said i should hav it checked out coz it was extremely hot.i didnt take much note as car was running only sluggish and he was drunk as a lord that day lol

but anyway i removed the whole dizzy with th module and vacuum advance still intact.after a lot of searching i finally found somewhere where they have the equipment needed to test the module and we will go from there.will post up the results of the tests as soon as i get it.will probably be tomorrow or the day after at the latest.

Thanks to everyone for your insights and help its much appreciated.lets hope this problem wil be solved now

yeah guy called me back.module is faulty.will replace it but seeing its big days ill only be able to collect the unit on tuesday.bit frustrating...
