Still couldn't get the wires out, so cut them and swapped them over, joining them up to where the head unit says they need to go, but now getting no power to the head unit at all. Do I need to join the IGN to the permanent live going into the back of the head unit? Bcause that is the only wire not connected now (perm live not connected). If all else fails I'm just going to go back to my original idea of putting all the wiring back to standard, and putting a switch on the permanent live. I thought this was going to be easy, changing the clutch was easier than this!

Yeah it has been a bit of a chow on to be honest. I'm going to wire it back to standard and put a switch on the live. Don't want to cut more wires than I have to, shouldn't have cut the ones I already have but it's too late now! It does have a wiring diagram on the head unit, but with the ignition live in where the permanent live was I'm getting nothing even if the car is running. Thanks for the advice, I should have just put a switch in in the first place!

Like i said in the beginning the Head Unit loom should have bullet connectors on the Switched live and a corresponding bullet connector for the spare permanant live. Plug the Switched bullet into the spare perm and Hey presto. Power.

This was what I was on about. :)
Just been out to check mine, the wires were yellow and red that needed swapping over. I'm guessing thats the same for all headunits volxstu? I put a post up on here in the bravo/brava section quite a while ago as this used to drive me nuts having to remember to turn the headunit off. Such a simple fix too!

Conclusion!
So I connected all the wires back as they should be, and simply put a switch on the permanent live, this gives me the option to have the radio on with no ignition if needs be, and to switch it off completely while it's parked. It works fine now, thanks for the suggestions guys.
Also, I don't need to worry about remembering to switch it off, as it's grained into my head now after having a flat battery so many times!

I have exactly the same problem but if i am being honest i would still struggle to sort this myself! Anyone know how much an Auto electrician would charge for this work?

Thanks in advance

Unexpected benefit, the radio keeps memory and remembers the last track and all my settings even though it completely goes off when I flick the switch. Even though the memory lead is not connected to anything.
