My '97 Marea 20v is getting its cambelt replaced in the next couple of weeks. Last time it was done at 68,000 miles they replaced tensioner, guide, etc etc as well. Now got 105,000 miles on the clock, is it necessary to replace the tensioner, guide etc every time you replace the cambelt?

i certainly would, i've just changed my cambelt after 2,500 miles due to my aux tensioner failure, there was nothing wrong with the belt and i've not replaced the cambelt tensioners but i was seriously considering it.

its obviously your desicion at the end of the day but you'll be better off paying the 140 for tensioners, belts and waterpump rather than replacing 20 valves at £15 a peice ;)

It would be crazy not to replace the tensioner and guide whilst it is all dismantled. The cost of doing it isn't very much, the cost of not doing it ......................................

That's what I thought, thanks chaps. I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay up for a proper job.
