General To break or to sell, that is the question!

Well, My 4x4 is back on the road so i've decided to get rid of the Marea.

I don't know whether to sell it as a whole, or break it.

I think i'd prefer to sell it as a whole... maybe i'll take the 17" alloys off it and put the steels back on.. i dunno.

What's everyones thoughts?

Weekend 1.9 JTD EX metallic black.. Y reg. I have some pics somewhere. She cleans up ok on the outside. dented bonnet where the previous owner couldn't get it closed and decided to use his foot. Cracked bumper on the drivers side. Seats are covered because they are minging. new disks on the front. original stereo with 6 cd changer. Mot till um.. July i think.

Better of selling the car whole I reckon.

The Marea was NEVER popular..

So you want a tradesman: window cleaner
In need of a cheap runabout.

Think mine is just fit for scrap tbh..
Runs ok..but too many daft niggles.

But £300 over 3 years is fine by me..

Mine is doing 250 miles every weekend.

Cost £290 as a project in feb 2015..
Think its earnt its keep..

If it was a tidy low mile 20v...then it might be worth saving.. but its basically a diesel van...

Sell it whole,they are useful cars and its still running. I agree there cant be much demand for parts, you just never see them on the road now.
Ours is still in great shape, but then I have owned it since it was a year old.

TBH I've grown kind of fond of my 110 , apart from horrible interior..and clonky suspension..,

I never got on with the 105 @15 years ago..:chin:
lovely tight example with nice trim..just a poor engine management made it a chalk / vs cheese experience compared to my old tipo TD's:worship:

but it's on the road for 3 more days..

and todays -2 'C was not to its liking

so it'll be back on scabby steel wheels, then off to an auto recycler.

I've been scouting around for a cheap runabout.. there is NOTHING sub £400 .. almost makes the old weekend worth fixing,
but I just can't get motivated.

My 99 Weekend JTD130 98k on clock failed MOT big time yesterday unexpectedly the floor didn't like the tester's hammer resulting in some fairly large holes

Suffice to say probably not worth doing all that welding as no doubt more horrors are waiting to be unearthed.

Such a great pity as overall the car is solid evidently underneath is literally it's weak point.

I went over my car with Dinitrol when it was a few years old. It did need a 10 x 10 cms plate 5 years ago, but I caught that in time. Its posted on here.
Sadly once you do find corrosion usually its got a good hold.

I had mine plated there for @£100.
Rest of car was sound (structually)

But the under tailgate area was rotten...

TBH.. I was scared my the fella who was putting the coupe kit in his marea:bravo. then discovered the sills had rotted from inside to out.. only visible once completely gone.

As I always say..if you bought a sheet of @1.5 mm steel. And left it outside for 18 years.. it would look fairly 'second hand'

a car cover goes along way to keeping these things sound over the years

I find car covers only last 2 or 3 years, and they are a faff to take on and off. i do keep the MG TF under one, but its just too difficult for an everyday driver.
