Hello all

I'm planning on changing the cam belt on my 1.2 pop fiat 500 this weekend, I am going to change the water pump at the same time.

A few questions, I've been told the water pump comes in two sizes. A 59mm diameter and a 63mm diameter pump. How do I know which one I need?

Also when I get the cover off etc, is there a way I can lock the cam and crank shafts in position. Is there a special tool for this, or can I use something else/make one?

Roughly how long should the job take? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi.
I did it.
I know that there are two different kinds of water pump, but the only way to know which is yours, is your car ID number or...the old pump in your hand .
I did this way: I put the car ID number in ePer, found the Fiat OEM code for the pump and so gone to the shop for an aftermarket part.
For that reason I know that the difference is not the diameter, but the rotor thickness.
So:

Mine was the first one. The one with more thickness.

About tool to lock the camshaft.....and above all the driveshaft, I bought and used this:

If one was very skilfull and sure, could do this operation following this video (it's exactly the same engine, Fiat supplied to Ford):

(I suggest you to watch it anyway)

For me (it was the first time) it had been quite difficult and took a full day (following the workshop manual instructions).

It went without a problem, the water pump was the one that needed the gasket sealant but other than this I did the job in about 2 hours.

Thanks for the help, that video was good, shame I couldn't understand a word he was saying lol

There are subtitles...

Both water pumps need the gasket sealant.

I needed a lot of time to do the work because...I hadn't watched this video...and I hadn't got all the tools.
It was very difficult for me to unscrew the bolt you can see at about minute 7.30 of the video...I had to go to a tool shop....
And I changed all....also the poly-v tensioneer

To be fair, you're an ex stoker and so the job should've been a piece of wee wee to you anyway! :D Now, if you were an ex Chief 'tif, i'd understand if you'd made a hash of it!
