hi

can any one help me with the following problem, basically i drive or did, a 1.8 hlx 1997.

the cambelt went and i rebuilt the engine every thing works fine apart from it over fuelling probally due to there being no CAT on the car.

anyway i keeps backfiring and then the engine knocks out, at low revs ie stopping at traffic lights or when using the clutch, it also knocks out and back fires when you accelerate hard over 3800rpm.

i have narrowed the problem down to the cam shaft sensor, but i dont know how to align the marks (metal pieces on the cam wheel) on the cam wheel to the sensor.

dose anyone know how to do this or have any information or specifications.

thanks

Alligning the cams

right your cams are out of line

take the cam belt off set the engine to tdc

now put the cam belt cover back on and do it up!

take off the view hole cover on the cam belt cover and the lines behind it should match up with the cam pullys lock the camshafts with the locking tools and then refit cam belt

it shows how to do it in the haynes manual!!!

if you dont get what i am saying tow the car to a cambelt clynic and get them to refit the belt for you! they will also re align the cams for you but make sure you tell them thay are out of line

It won't be over fueling and it won't be the cam sensor.

Take it to Fiat and get them to Align the cam, you should have used the cam locking blocks to reinstall the cambelt.

I DID USE THE CAM LOCKING TOOLS AND ALL OF THE MARKS LINE UP THATS THE PROBLEM, WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE.

sorry about the caps
