I have just bought a 96 Sporting as a Second Car. I always wanted one and finally took the plunge. I am really happy with it so far.

I was planning to change the cam belt as a precaution but my local FIAT dealer has told me all FIRE engines are safe.

Does anybody know if this is true?

The engines can take a lot of stick so long as they are looked after, regarding changing the cambelt i would just to be safe!

I understand they are "non-interference"
I.E. the valves and pistons don't hit if you break the timing belt.

It's not something I've managed to do, yet, so I don't have first hand experience..

My cambelt did snap on my Panda - Pete L. on this forum knows about this one from a few years back, 2000 I think!! I was only doing 20 m.p.h. anyway ... :)

Absolutely no damage whatsoever. Thank God.
