Technical Cam belt explanation

Cheers!(y)
I have my cambelt and tensioner and aux belts on order now so it won't be long

I bought my cambelt and tensioner kit nearly 18 months ago now along with a new clutch kit and other bits and bobs and checked the prices on shop4 the other day .. the prices have shot up and the clutch kit over double the amount ..now thats what I call inflation (n) I need to look at the cam sprockets but I think I can make up my own locking tool with some small gauge flat bar and bolts will let you all know if its possible :chin:

I did my Vectra the other week. I locked the cams together by using a shaped and profiled wedge between the sprockets before taking the belt tension off.

It was only made from wood, but was a snug 'tap on' fit. Clearly not wellied on, that would be stupid and could cause damage / distortion to the sprockets. At the end of the day, I only changed one belt with it and then threw it away. It did have timing marks on the sprocket as well, but they didn't move at all anyway.

Can't say it was difficult to do, so I don't expect the Stilo to be hard either.

Folks, just a quick note to say that i took the stilo back to mr clutch to have the fault diagnosed, instead they re did the job.

After 4 hours of waiting they said the car was done, i turned it over and all seemed to be ok. Drove it home, probably about a 3 mile drive if that and started noticing that the engine on Acceleration was making a strange noise. Simmilar to the noise that a corsa makes when its accelerating. When i got in i checked the engine whilst running and could hear a tapping noise from the back of the engine close to the small cogs.

Cant see anything that is visably lose of flapping about though. I have now phoned fiat to see if they can have a look and tell me exactly what it is so i can go back to mr clutch again and have them once and for all fix the problem. Not a happy bunny currently.

Just goes to show that the price for having the cam belt done was too good to be true!
