Also i must admit i can not type a letter properly i do not know even where to put in dots punctuation anything in.allan1954.

i have had to register a new name to post on here as i can not log in on my other user name i am sorry what i said about all you people on here the mods maxi robinpj venters jrkitchin and i did use a android tablet to register an other account i will leave.i got so angry about one thing and an other i will not cause chaos thanks allan1954 if you other i upset i will stay online to say i am sorry for all the arguments i caused.also stu i am sorry what i said about you.

Thank you Allan for the posting - I must say I was a little touched by it. Hopefully you wouldn't say anything that would make me regret replying to you. I would imagine that all those they you have named appreciate the response.

Andy Monty's earlier posting (Click here) taken from the manual is worth reading. Practically everything has to be 'off' for the S/S to work.

I can't find bludvl_x19 'helpful pointers' since they may have got 'cleaned' in the sweep of the thread.

The sealed Battery will need a 'proper' charge at a particular voltage overnight and preferably with the car remaining 'connected' to a spare battery. Since you can get batteries cheap I would nearly put a new battery into it. Halfords sell ones that come with a 5 year guarantee and they're no quibble.

Most recent software update with the 'Examiner' wouldn't go astray but you probably have already got that done.

Another member on here with a new TA had problems with S/S not working and it was discovered that the Alternator was not working properly. This was changed and S/S has been working since.

Coil packs might be the next thing but I kinda doubt that. Some have been replaced on TA (for smoother running ?) so it will not apply to your 1.2.

Since you mentioned that your car was a '09 with it being a S/S it must be one of the first 500s that was fitted with it so you are probably in the Dealer part of the warranty - the 3rd year. Best bet is to go back to the Dealer that you bought the car off and leave it with them for 1-2 days. If your dealings with them have gone pear shaped it might be worthwhile seeing if the OH can get their co-operation. Persistence and pleasantness will pay dividends.

Best of luck and hope you get it sorted. (y)

Thanks but my car 12 plate it is being looked at on 19/08/12 a tech guy is coming from fiat to see the car.

Allan

Thanks for your messages above. It can't have been easy for you to post them and they are appreciated. As for punctuation and stuff, I can see that you are making an effort now and it is much easier to understand you, so that's all good.

I think loveshandbags has given good advice although some of it should not apply as your car is new. I am not very technical but I do read these threads, so I would suggest that you make sure you talk to the tech when the car goes in and get him to:

1 check that the alternator is charging the whole time (someone had a problem when it was only charging from time to time);

2 check the coils (I don't even know what that means but at least one person has had their S/S issue resolved with a new coil pack); and

3 swap the battery for a new one and make sure it is charged up for long enough (I don't know how long that is I'm afraid).

As to your rights, as you went to Trading Standards yesterday you know what your rights are, but the two most important pieces of advice I can give you are:

1 keep a note of everything that happens, and if you suddenly remember something from a while back, add it to your note; and

2 be reasonable. Little in the law is absolute and if this ever were to end up in front of a judge (or for that matter some senior Fiat person who can decide what to do about your car) you are much more likely to get a favourable hearing if you have acted reasonably rather than being too demanding.

Finally, you said yesterday that on one occasion you saw your car not move and then be told it had been worked on and the issue resolved. Was that true? Did you raise it with the dealer? What was their response if you did? This sort of behaviour is your trump card, especially if they admit it - you might want to hang on for now but Fiat HQ Customer Services would presumably be orrified to hear about something like that.

Anyway, good luck.

Robin

That's even better and it's under manufacturer's warranty. It's probably also less than 6 months which gives one a 'stronger grounding'. A few links that I thought would be benefical...

I have 2 500's both seem to be functioning perfectly with regards to stop/start. The second one gets driven once a week at most and stop/start works perfectly, not sure how long you would need to leave the car idle for the battery to get low.

Thanks robin for the advice but if my problem gets sorted i will let you know mind fiat do not rush to get things sorted nearly six weeks wait.

Thanks handal the car wifes 15 mile to work 15 back stop start maybe worked 5 times in 3 months of use.

I think you deffo have a problem then. I drove my wifes car at the weekend and was in traffic for a few mins and every time I stopped, the stop/start worked perfectly.. Probably too well lol...I'd stop, take foot off clutch, car stops...2 seconds later moving again...car starts and away we went for 2 yards etc...

Very frustrating to have to wait 6 weeks, but I understand the techs are very good, and at least it not working is not dangerous or otherwise affecting use of the car.

Have a good weekend everyone and let's all hope Andy Murray progresses....

Handal, this is actually a fault, albeit only slightly annoying. When in slow moving traffic I believe that after the stop/start should recognise this and not operate again until you have exceeded a certain speed, similar to how the "Autoclose" function for the door locking operates. I don't have it on my present car but I seem to recall that it operated this way on my last 500.

Update got a call monday from dealer who sold me the car could i bring the car to the dealer today.the tech guy was in the area and could have a look they have admited there is a problem with stop start.so monday 16/07/12 the car has to go in for 2 days for parts to be changed and what ever needs to be done and a car for me to lend for work.

Glad they are getting on with it for you, With mine once they changed the alternator it worked like a charm and has been perfect since.

Mine was in 3 times before it got sorted, visit one they just charged battery ovenight, visit 2 they changed battery, and visit 3 they changed the alternator, problem you have is once they charge it or change the battery it works again for a couple of days before realising the fault is still there, so hopefully with them keeping your a while it will be sorted, Mine had a Tech Case opened with Fiat as well.

Let us know what they do to it in the end.

Allen,

On your iPad, you can go to Settings > General, scroll down to Keyboard, then switch on Auto-Capitalization and “.”-Shortcut.

From now on, when you tap the space bar twice, it’ll insert a full stop and capitalize the next letter.

Thanks will have a go keep tapping the arrow key some times i forget do you guys now what grade of oil the fiat 500 petrol uses.
