Well my clutch cable snapped again, this is the fourth time since i got it back in sept. But it wouldn;t be so bad but i only had it replaced 2 weeks ago tomorrow at my local garage, it cost me £60 which seemed abit steep. Now my mechanic is talking of replacing the whole clutch and doesn't know how much it would be yet! I'm tight for cash at the moment and i could really do with some advice!

in does need a new clutch, sorry, my cinq was the same.... lets see..... september you got it, 4 times in 8 months, i had 5 in 7 months so mines was worse!! what a dubious honour that is, i agree its cheaper to replace the cable, but it WILL snap again, and again, and keep snapping until the clutch itself is sorted. its cheaper in the long run to get the clutch done now before any more cables need put in (y)

Its a poor design to start with so even if clutch was done, there would be no real guarantee it wont happen again, just it might last a bit longer.

5 in 7 months, thats pretty good going compared to some

Its not a poor design, its very clever and does what it needs to do, but wear in a clutch is a fact of life. Get over it.

true timescale wise its not the worst i've heard, though when you consider it worked out to every 110 miles or so it would snap.... not so good.. i have heard of people only getting 80 or so mind!!,

i agree rallycinq, very clever design, not without fault though, just needs a better designed cable end and stronger pivots! i count the clutch mechanisim as a cento weak point though, because of my expieriences in the past!, but the handbrake?, my my...... now that is a bad design!!!!
 
Its not a poor design, its very clever and does what it needs to do, but wear in a clutch is a fact of life. Get over it.

i dont really understand how the thing works, but i also drive a 138,000 mile hyundai accent which is mechanically bulletproof and to my knowledge only on its second clutch (its been in the family from new)

ive just had the cable done on my sei - 2nd since december - there goes another £50
 
After replacing my clutch, the pressure needed to press the pedal down is almost nothing compared to how it was, turned out the release bearing and clutch forks had failed.

The clutch was one off ebay, I did the job myself with help from a mate to get the 'box back on.

I cant see my current cable snapping now, as the bits it connects to are now working really smoothly.

You could keep buying cables, but you may as well bite the bullet and get the whole clutch done, make sure you/they change the release bearing at the same time.

The clutch cable does not need a stronger cable end or pivot. Try a cento with a proper working clutch, you will be amazed at how light it is in operation. If there is a weak point, it is the plastic housing for the release bearing, but that only becomes an issue if you ride the clutch and overheat it.

Agreed. As for the handbrake, the design has only one flaw: one of the arms of the actuating elbow should have a nylon or bronze bush. Otherwise, it's simple, cheap, and there's only one adjustment point. What more could you want?
