Technical Buying a starter motor online Fiat Punto MK1 1.2 16v ELX

Hi there,
Can anybody give me any advice, what to look for, what to ask about when buying a starter motor online?

I am in the market for recon starter as mine (apparently) has packed in. Because I am not sure if my mystery problem is the starter want to save on costs. Garage quoted me £160 all in but I received quotes of £25 to £40 from Breakers Yard from sources like - FL Autos, Puntos R Us, Carparts, UK Autoparts some with warrantys of 2 months etc

would people recommend?

also, I have the Haynes Manual and thinking with a mate I may attempt it myself.
can the starter motor be done from above like this article suggests, as I dont have the space, car jack etc?

Get yourself a Haynes Manual for the correct year / version for you

It might be alittle bit fiddly as acess may be rubbish - but i'd do it myself - but im like that

As for the correct type - see if you can find any info on the current S.motor

i took mine off from above...bit fiddly but with right tools wasnt 2 hard...still not replaced mine yet though haha

It is tight but can be done from above. Only 3 bolts and a couple of leads on the rear. Just remember to disconect the battery

Its that or pay the garage. Though £160 is steep for a 1 hour job plus parts.

I have a quote for a starter motor from Puntos R Us for £15 with a 30 day guarentee. what questions should I ask about the part when I call, before purchasing.

If I pay an extra £15 I can get a 90 day warranty off other suppliers.
