General Bumble's Bee

I was hoping to solve the creaks and groans from the Hardtop by carrying out Steves idea of a piece of plastic to stop metal/metal contact but the weather is terrible today.:bang:

Things still going well here but I have noticed an occasional loud squeal from the starter motor on the overrun and it may need some lubrication. Snow is forecast for Sunday so it's a good job there are some quick fit snow chains on that place one doesn't mention. Also the advert showing the rear seat covers makes me smile too. Hope our Cumbria and SW Scotland friends are all ok.

Well we have had the first real snow of the season, not as bad as in some places though. B started up first time and I left her to tick over for ten minutes but decided to take the Golf to the shops which was wise in view of the numpties out on the untreated roads. I'm off to Aosta, Italy in search of some decent snow for skiing so best wishes to everyone. Drive safely.

Fairly easy drive to work in the snow this morning although there were a few ominous scrapes from the underside of the car as the deep snow had an icy crust. I deliberately park the car without the handbrake on as I am concerned that, if standing for a few days, the pads might stick to the discs, however, this morning there was a still a jerk and a bang as I pulled out of the garage and something had obviously stuck? All seems well now though and as my son has gone back to Portsmouth, I will be able to use his Focus for the rest of the week and the Barchetta is back in the garage.

I was victim of the frozen handbrake last week, went to my local slotcar club and parked up the B in the only space available that was on a very sharp incline, not thinking put on the hand brake good and tight. came out of the club 3 hours later -8 half past midnight, waved everyone off jumped into the B handbrake locked solid,:bang: had to call my wife to collect me 30 mile round trip drive not very happy.
Why is it that when you do something wrong that your partner becomes supper wise and all knowing of any problems that will arise?:slayer:

Next day a revisit to my marooned car armed with an electric hot air gun to defrost the lower part of the cable.

last year i was paying parking space for 4 days until sun came out. also i parked into building shadow, so i had to move car to sun with blocked back wheels... surprising, barch was dragging fine with "crippled" back wheels.

second worst problem than frozen handbrake is frozen door handles. it's impossible to push that button when is frozen, and of course liquid for defrosting is inside car. so now usually i put some branch between door handle and car body...

also heating system work fine and quickly heat it, but it's just not enough to defrost/demist whole wind shield... and when defrosting is nearly done, it looks that somebody's big a$$ was sitting on.

cracked back widow, dead battery... etc.

that car is really funny... i like it! :D

I left my workplace in livingston tonight -11, i unlocked the car with no problems had to really push the button though to release the handle , door opened but the door would not close again after 10 mins with deicer around the barrel and the mechanism i got the door to shut again. I left my handbrake off all day now the handbrake is frozen off .with up to 6" of snow forecast tonight this part of the country is getting tricky to get about.

It's been snowing hard all day here. School is closed today and tomorrow. Managed to grab a pic at 11am during a break in the snowstorms. The retaining wall around the lawn is 300mm high at the bottom and 450mm near to the house. More snow forecast tonight and tomorrow. Take care.

Hello Bumble's Bee, nice pics I am glad the Barchetta started; having never seen snow, other than a light sprinkling of talcum powder, I found the pics great! You must be a bit tired of it though. I come from Johannesburg where I own a '97 Barchetta, and feel really alone because I bought this car which came to South Africa through an Italian diplomat; I love the car but have a few small issues I cannot get help with because the car is unknown here. My driver's window does not approximate closely enough to the hood and rubber, and I have stripped off the panel etc, but cannot work out how to adjust it. I have a Fiat Workshop manual on a double CD which is great, but the section on the door seems to show a different model. My door glass seems to have a far more complicated adjustment scenario than shown in the manual (which is very poorly illustrated in this respect) I do feel I need to have email contact with someone versed in these things, so that I can more easily correspond with pictures, although I imagine it isn't too difficult to do all of that through the forum? My email address is [email protected] (that is, UTL). Any help would be gratefully received!!:worship:
