Hello,

Please can someone help. I have a Brand new Fiat Punto Grande. when I connected a USB flash drive to my car for the first time it worked great I could navigate through the menu selecting the music, albums I wanted to play etc.

Now after three weeks of having the car every time I plug in a flash drive (I've tried a couple) the system reports "Buliding Index Please wait" now I've been on an hour drive and although the music is playing and I can using the controls to change the track I cannot select the album genre etc the woman repeats the same thing every time.

Does anyone have a solution to the problem?

Plus also having issues with the Microphone - it now seems distant even when shouting but I can hear the person on the other end of the phone perfectly fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Firstly, Welcome to FF.

Secondly, a little more info would be great. What size is the memory stick your using? If your answer is over 4GB and its pretty full then the reason seems to be that you've got too much music and B&M doesnt have enough internal storage to hold the index of all your music.

Try using a smaller USB stick or use less space on yours.

A full memory stick seems to upset her as much as a high capacity one.

The microphone is an issue to mention to your dealer.

PS Dont forget to join us over in the GP section :)

Thank you for the quick response.

The original memory stick I tried was 16GB but wasn't full right up that worked fine, then I filled a 1GB memory stick with only 40MB to spare that didn't work, I then transferred the data from the 1GB back to the 16GB but having the same issue.

I may try even less space but surely the internal storage isn't that small?

Thanks

Ages ago I found the Microsoft reference spec for Windows Mobile for Automotive 5 and that had 96mb of RAM.

Was looking to see if the SDK was publicly available so I could make a stupid app for the car to greet me :)

Can you just check that all your files are named cleanly (Try this http://www.spoelstrait.nl/BluMeUSB/) and that no non music files are present?

I shall rename the the albums/files etc I believe there is also other files on the drive I shall clear all Data and start again see if that helps.

Also a where is the microphone located in the Punto?

That links great hopefully that should help.

Yeah, best to just have music on there and the Mic is in the interior light cluster above your head.

You'll spot a section of the plastic toward the rear with some perforations, its just under here.

The light cluster is removed simply by pulling from the back or front of it.

Is it OK to have files with songs in them ( ie folder with name of album) or should you just copy the song files directly onto the memory stick? I have a 4gb TDK memory stick and am having the same ' building media library, please wait' issue and can only play in random mode.

An update to my own problem. have tried the following steps, all to no avail.

  1. Reinstalled version 5.5
  2. Took 1GB of music off my 4GB TDK memory stick.
  3. Ensured I was using FAT32
  4. Used a 1GB stick with only 500mb of music on it

It stillsays " building media library, please wait" everytime Itry to access artists or albums and only lets me play in random mode.
Under the old version I had an 8 GB stick working fine, now nothing does. I called my local fiat garage and the conning b******ds want £85 just to look at it as the media player is covered under the 3rd year warranty.
Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm tearing my hair out here!
Thanks everyone.
