Me and Lulu did our first of which will be many longer distance drives yesterday - 250 mile trip in the glorious bordering on the unbelievable British sun. We started out washed, waxed and gleaming, ready to show off to friends who were eagerly awaiting our arrival - all was well ... until

I went to Essex from Leicstershire a about 10 days ago, cars covered in bug splats from it. Enjoyed the drive though

... we stopped at our destination and i looked at her front side on. Oh my god! I've never seen so much bug juice on one dinky car. Bossa Nova White was now Puss Yellow with black crusty bits for texture - bleugh!
What can i do to stop this? Is it because her nose is quite short and blunt, and if so, can i get some kind of clear protector stick on type thing?
If you can help my car and my nausea it would be appreciated

I haven't seen any official products or anything for this I'm afraid, my solution involved a power nozzle and a water hose, least you arent up close and personal that way (and you dont have to use much pressure either really)

Cheers for that - definately like the power nozzle bit. May need some kind of fall out suit in case of spash backs though. Honestly, it is the stuff of nightmares!

I wash my car from an angle normally to stop it, and always so the water goes with the wind, that way it doesnt bounce at me and it all ends up down near the drain

I have noticed when flying lately that the fields contain much more Oilseed Rape than ever before. (you know that yellow stuff) The countryside is almost checkerboarded with it this year. Around these fields are swarms of small black flies.

I reckon you could make a new brand of superglue from flies innards!

Hey Sheeno,
We got splattered on Saturday on a fastish motoway run to Brooklands.

Looks like autoglym have come up with special BUG wipes to alleviate our problems.

Another tip:-
When washing at home I usually hose down and then (lightly) apply autoglym intensive tar remove to affected areas before washing.
Be sure to keep wax topped up and things are less likely to stick soundly.

Every time I touch my bottle of wax, it rains. Hence my car hasn't been waxxed yet and you can tell

Try Autoglym super resin polish, followed by Autoglym Extra Shine, they come off a lot easier afterwards.

I discovered it you put a wet soapy towel over the bugs for 20 minutes and let the little suckers soak for a while they just hose off

The hose I use always shifts them but I imagine thats because of the presure nozzle, if I don't have access to the nozzle I'l give that a go I think

Thats a very good tip. Also one that works on Bird crap, Although I would add that the towel doesn't need to be soapy either. Helps a bit.

Bugs have officially become my worst enemy - I have taken to trying to dodge them as I drive and wiping the little b*ggers off the front of Alfonso after every drive - the bugs get in his eyes! I'm sure the neighbours think I'm completey obssesed with keeping the car clean. Which of course I am My OCD is in overdrive!!!!!!

Hello to you. The same effect can be achieved by putting some of your washing solution over the bug splattered are first. Just a single pass of the sponge/wash mitt. Let them soak while you wash the rest of the car, then off they come with a single wipe.

You've stolen my thoughts. Bikers tip to remove bugs, soak with a wet kitchen roll for 5 mins, then they just wipe off. Water doesn't even need to be soapy. I've not tried this on my 500 yet but my bike (yellow-flies love it!) and visor come up a treat!

I applied Dodo Juice 'Supernatural' wax to my 500, as soon as I purchased him. I just apply warm water/meguiars shampoo with the meguiars lambswool wash mitt & the bugs lift off, without the need to rub the paintwork

It's just back from it's 250 mile jaunt to Dublin and it needs cleaned....
