On another thread on inductions (primarily for a 1.4 - there is a few of us left out there
) I discovered that the best performing induction setup was to fit a GSR (I would chance it) - but these are no longer available
. A lot of the 100hp drivers are now making their own of the same design. By making one of your own it could be simplified by using a crankcase breather. I did eventually find the steps to be taken to reset the ECU
for the additional breathing (which I was not doing correctly) and I'm happy to share this with you - this avoids having to have a remap (which cannot be done on the ECU of the Panda because it is locked). Current regulation do not allow road going cars to have crankcase breathers
. Now once you look at how to get around this, 'oil catcher' comes up and and now you have ones which have an integrated breather. Some state that the benefits of the crankcase breather give an extra 2bhp (of course on slightly bigger engines) but more importantly it can prolong engine life allowing the engine to expel sludge and vapour which breaks the oil down. With the recent threads on 'stated' service intervals (Abarths) and reliability I though it would be topical. I know there is a few of you out there that are into tinkering a bit with with a lot of 500s now coming out of warranty or no longer having a blemish free service history - I thought this might be of interest as a little mod that wouldn't break the bank and could prolong engine life. P.S. there is a youtube of an italian guy doing a breather on an A500 but I thought it would be inappropriate to include it on the 500 section
