Hi all,

Car broke down this morning...

Long story short looks like the fuel pump. However I cannot get mine off!!! To cap it all off :bang: I snapped a post .

I have rung around most of the local scrap yards but cannot find a second hand one in Bristol. New is £100

Can anyone help?
Is there a pump assy that fits mine from the mk2's or from another another FIAT model?

The way to get pump out of tank is to pour hot warter on the ring and get a flat object like I chisle or big flat screwdriver and place on lug or fastening ring and give it a good clought with a hammer, its how I got mine off same when I was in scrappers geting a 2nd hand 1 out,

Remember right tight, left loose :D

EBay item number:251050204356 im not running the correct fuel pump in my punto and had no problems so at that price I would give it a go

Thanks for the replies gents....happy days! all fixed'

Managed to get a second hand one today for £30 (pen park road near the double roundabouts on southmead road for bristolians). All changed and running sweet. though I now have a flat battery . Had to do a jump start

It was a right pig to get out. Ended up breaking lugs and all sorts using a chisel and hammer. I borrowed a tool from the local garage. Which was a rather large pair of water pump pliers. These gripped just enough to turn the ring half a turn. Then all done by hand..

In case anyone stumbles on this thread with the same problems. Stuff I found out...

Rough Dims for the ring (in case you want to make a tool up (2 plates and 2 threaded bars should do the trick).

approx circumference of ring is 133.98mm
Approx depth - 30mm
Distance between teeth approx 31.18mm

Part number of the pump that came out of mine was
464 27 664

what went in was
464 73 394

From research on ebay, the FIAT eper, on here and searching on google any pump fitted to a MK1 punto that had multi point or single point injection should fit and work.
Cheapest I found was on the bay of dreams at 60 +P&P but some serious comms issue with a woman called agness whose english is not brilliant.

1.1 ( spi) pumps are too low pressure for a sporting, they will start and run at low revs but be fuel starvation when you need full power

So only pumps from MPI cars go onto MPI (1242cc) cars and pumps from SPI fgo onto SPI. (1.1cc) cars.

I ask the following 2 questions for future people with the same problem........

Is there a part number difference between SPI and MPI petrol pumps because I could not find that info out. . ePER looked like 1100 and 1242 were the same part number to me. I suspect I was using it incorrectly.

Also

Is there any correlation to the colour dot on top of the pump? Blue or Purple?

An update....

Today was the first opportunity to drive the car any distance. I definitely have a flat spot between 2500 to 3000 on acceleration and problems with what is best described as a very mild and intermittent 'turbo lag'. Looks like I have the
1 bar pump.

The place I got the pump from has about 6 on a shelf. A mixture 2 outlets pumps with blue dots and purple dots.

Is there any correlation of the colour dot on top of the pump?

E.g blue = SPI and purple = MPI

kyller - Thanks for the answer. I have not got the cash to spare to spend on a 4th car at present. Thanks for the offer of the pump. I may well come back to you yet.

For informations sake (In case anyone else has the same problem)

How easy is it to pull out the motor/insert from the pump housing assy?

I did try to get the bottom cover off the knackered one the other day and I could not get the green syphon type thing to come loose from the bottom.....

easy job
1.take up rear seat
2.open cover -4 bolts M6 10 mm socket
3.put a lot WD40 on few small bolts
4.drink a beer slowly
5.disconect two conectors for fuel pipes and conector for wiring screwdriver and fingers
6.unbolt few M4 bolts 7 mm socket
7.take of ring which keep whole pump setup
8.take it out from tank -watchout for level sensor
9.take out clip from pipe on insert
10.realase few clips and take out insert

Update - I have been using the car to get to work ove rthe last week and the hesitation around 2000rpm has disappeared. I presume the battery got so flat when I and the RAC were trying to start it/eliminate causes of the non starting that the ECU must have reset.

I still have no real idea of the correct part number for the fuel pump. I went back to the bloke I sourced the pump I have and looked through the othe 6 he had. None had the part numbers I thought were needed.! Confused.
