Hey guys, I recently bought a lockwood dial kit (the silver one) and today i went to put it in. I marked all the positions of the dials and took them out, replaced the backing etc. The interesting bit is, that on the revmeter, fuel and temp gauge, the metal spindle came out with the dial. But on the speedo the needle came out and the metal spindle stayed in. Now only the speedo works, so has anyone had this issue before and is it fixable? Or do i have to go and buy some more JTD dials?
Thanks
HH

sounds like youve damaged them beyond repair bud. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Damn i thought it might be. Now someone else tell me i can fix it lol. Is it possible to take those needles out without breaking them? Or is it just luck if the spindle stays in or not....

i did lots of them without pulling out the spindle - it's just a matter of turning and pulling anti-clockwise with some patience - the needles have to be twisted around several times before they come loose from the spindle.

Shadeyman, do you think it would be possible to replace the entire motor using a set of donor dials?

Yes it is possible, I know because I've done it.

The motors are all the same regardless of what they are displaying fuel, speed, temp etc. The motors from a petrol cluster will work in a diesel cluster and vice versa.

I cut my way into an old cluster, destroying everything except the motors which I then unsoldered from the board.

Once I had 4 perfect motors I pulled the pins out of the cluster I intended to use, soldered on the mew motors, fitted new white dials, reassembled them and fitted them to a mates Stilo. That was the middle of last year and they're still working fine.
