My S Reg with 91,000 miles makes terrible clatter when cold but otherwise runs well. Local garage says it needs either new injector sensor or fuel pump. Anybody had these jobs done? Did it sort the problem and what kind of guide price should I be looking at?

If its the fuel pump, it can be repaired (in my country at least).
But the noise could be the valves, the TD doesent have self adjust valves, it needs adjusting whit special pads.
Change the oil if this one U have is old, it may smooth down the noise.

Thanks sven. I will pursue your suggestions. When u say change oil presumably u mean fresh oil rather than a different type of oil?

Yes, the oil on the TD & JTD engines must be replaced every 10 000 km (6213,71 miles), cos. of the turbo.
When U change the oil, ALWAYS change the oil filter, and the air filter.
The valves need to be checked / adjusted every 40 000 km. I think that your ”space” between the valve and the cam is too large.
So the cam slams the valves, but when its cold and there isnt much oil on them they clap. But when the engine worms up, they stop.
The ”space” needs to be checked.

Bravo 1.9TD Engine noise, stalling, loss of power

The engine is also stalling when put into 1st gear or when it starts to move off. When it does get going, sometimes there's no power for a few seconds. The engine oil was changed in January?
