General Bravo, strange idle problem.

Hi, hope somebody can help me. I have a 2000 W reg Bravo 1.2 16v that is playing up. The car itself drives perfect, no stuttering, no flat spots etc. However when driving and you come to a rest the revs drop down to 1500 and stay there for about six seconds and then drop down to 800. So if you pull away quickly it is revving too high. This only happens at standstill. If you are driving at speed and either dip the clutch or put it in neutral the revs drop to 1500 and stay there for all the time the car is moving, irrespective of how long for. Even if you coast to a standstill from 60mph they stay at 1500 which is quite a few minutes. As soon as the car stops moving, six seconds later and they drop down to 800. This is making a very nice car a bit of a pig to drive, is there anyone out there that can help? Thanks

hi there, that had happened to my car, it was a carbon build up in the idle control valve. had to be soaked in an electric bath or something. im not to sure exactly what. i sent mines away to get fixed, and was running as sweet as a nut fot months and recently its happening again. it mainly happens when im driving at higher speeds for a period of time like on a motorway or bypass. but shortly afte it corrects itself. i also find that when i start my car sometimes the revs drop to 500 or so then picks up.

its a very common problem on the 1.2

clean inside the throttlebody. you can use WD40 sprayed on a rag. make sure you clean both sides of the butterfly valve.

if that does not cure it then you can use washers to space the idle speed controller from the throttlebody by a few mm. i dont know why that works but it does.

This happens to my Brava 80 16v too. But i thought i was normal, like a help to your gearbox, it doesnt suffer too much rpm impact. Now i guess its a problem...

Spacing the idle speed controller with washers cured it. Thanks for the advice.
