I have a 1.4 SX, does the 1.8 do more MPG than the insain 28mpg I get at the moment?

Is there anyone on here thats had the transplant done and can give any details like cost, reliability etc?

economy

My 1.8 does about the same as your 1.4, but i get a lot more power than you. But why do a transplant? Is your car really so special that you cant sell it and buy a hlx.

Rather than spend money on a transplant, for the same amount of money you could get a 1.8hlx, which would also have all the hlx goodies such as air con, and to top it off would be worth more when u sell it, and would be easier to insure.

If its economy you want tho the 1.6 is excellent. It ticks over at 3000rpm whilst cruising at 80mph. I got well over 40mpg out of mine and its plenty fast enough too.

Re: economy

Which 1.6 did you have? My 97 sx does 4000rpm at 80 and gets a bit less than 35mpg!

1.4 Economy

My 1.4 averages 31.3 MPG since I bought it with 36,000 miles on 2 1/2 years ago. I have done 32,000 miles in it since and had it serviced at my local Fiat dealership since. Most of my mileage is round town with a bit of dual carriageway and motorway driving and I do drive it hard. Having said all of this my economy seems to have dropped since my last service 3 weeks ago and I am keeping tabs on it as I may take it back to the dealer as I would have expected it to go up.

Be carefull

If you thinking of putting a 1.8 in a 1.4, look at my last post. My 1.4 engine slipped a cam belt, so I found a cheap 1.6 engine, but to do this, your going to need, drive shaft, gear linkage, ECU, wiring loom, engine mount brackets. You can use the 1.4 gearboxs which will make it faster on acceleration, but would knock a lot of the top speed.

It would have been nice if someone read and replied to my post :(

You need all the above becasue the 1.4 is single point injection and all over bravo engines are multipoint, thats why there better on fuel eco. The gear linkage is totally different and the drive shaft are in a different place. The ECU and iring loam is to allow for the multipoint injection.

Have fun if your thinking of doing it, One company quote £3500 for a 1.2 supplied and fitted. I found the 1.6 engine and all the above for £300, but it will take about 1 - 3 weeks solid work, 12 hour days.

The best best is to give the car a good clean and sale it, as there are still people un aware of the faults to 1.4 engine.

Re: Be carefull

My gf is also interested in an engine swap. But I think the costs are too high.
It's not easy to buy just another car as this one is in the perfect color, with heated seats, aircon etc.
It's almost impossible to find a similary equipped car that's a GT or HGT too :(
At least here in Holland where 80% is a darkblue or green 1.4

Re: Re: Be carefull

My 1.6 does around 3000rpm at 80mph and I get about 35mpg.
