Brava 80 SX IDLE PROBLEM

MY 1242 80SX has been giving problems with the
engine stopping periodically when it should drop to
idle speed, like Roundabouts, junctions etc.

Occasionally the error red light for the injecton
system illuminates briefly but does not stay on.

I've had the car at the Fiat Dealer three times
connected to the computer and they told me last
week that there are no errors on the system,
they re-programmed the ECU and low and
behold its still doing the very same,
just will not idle a lot of the time.
Anybody with experience ?

Its happened to me occasionally. Cutting out at roundabouts etc.
What oil have you in there? Recent oil change?
A change in mine seemed to work wonders

Start with the cheapest first.

1 Change the air filter if it's at all in doubt

2 Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for at least 24 hours or longer if you can, let the ECU relearn the engine best settings. This cured my same symptoms.

3 Plugs

4 Plug leads

5 After that could be oxygen sensor. Usually accompanied by high fuel consumption and rough running in mid rev range. Should be getting 370 miles per tank on 80SX if driving gently.

6 Throttle idle adjuster. This is usually where the engine goes through spasms where it will hardly idle at all and not just now and again. £100 to replace. Fancy box of tricks.

Do items 1 and 2 and that will usually cure 95% of the time
