This morning I was on my way to work, when I went to Brake at the traffic lights, there was no bite in my brake pedal, and my foot hit the floor, the car wouldnt stop right away and it took quite a distance to stop. i pulled into the garage having to use my handbrake to stop. I checked my clutch/brake fluid and it was 3.4 empty, bought some more poured it in and started the car.

Again when i started the car the brake pedal is hitting the floor, with virtually no braking power.

any ideas what to do, where to look??

its a Y reg Fiat Bravo

Hello Paul,

Its an obvious question, but are there any leaks underneath the car ?
You might have to look fairly closely around each wheel/brake caliper...

My Marea did this about 8 weeks ago, it was a brake pipe that ran over the fuel tank that had split, so couldn't be seen easily.

Could well be a hose/brake line split/weeping etc

Otherwise, maybe a servo problem ??

Good luck with the search

Also check on top of the gearbox for a leaking clutch slave cylinder. Under the battery tray. Brakes and clutch use the same reservoir.

I only replaced the clutch slave cylinder about 2months ago maximum,

checdked under the wheels and there is no leakage.

dont konw where else to look

Could be a master cylinder seal failed, allowing the piston to travel and not pressurise the fluid ??

Re-bleed the brakes ??

hmmmm
