Does this indicate low fluid or low brake pads?

Looked at the fluid and it looked a little low. Tried to top it up but even though the filler bit filled up it didnt seem to flow into the main reservoir. I see theres a filter and this doesnt look dirty, any ideas?

Check the brake pads for wear just in case. Low fluid can mean a leak, or it can mean worn pads if the fluid has never been topped up.

Pull the filter piece up (and out if necessary)- the gauze is so fine that it can be a struggle to top-up, pulling it up will allow the fluid to enter the reservoir easier.

But check the pads first. When they are worn down the fluid level will have dropped. You then push the pistons back to fit new pads. Surprise! the level is back to normal. If you've recently topped up the reservoir can overflow - and that stuff strips off paint a treat.

Good point....

Checked the pads - OK. Pulled the filter piece up a little and it seemed to drain through ok then. Brake fluid now topped up.... Thanks.

When you do need to replace the brake pads be VERY careful the fluid doesn't overflow as you push the pistons back.

Its also worth checking for a leak (brakes and clutch). Normally the reservoir is big enough to cope with all 4 brakes being worn out.
