General Brake light on dashboard.

General Brake light on dashboard.

If you think there is a brake leak somewhere, press the brake pedal for 1-2 minutes. If it drops slowly to the floor there is prob a leak. Best fixed me thinks :D

I checked the brake fluid and it looks like the level is just above the pipe that goes out of the side of the reservoir, so if i accelerate hard it would probably drop below the opening as it gets pushed to the rear of the reservoir, what is the brake fluid i need to add in?

I shall try pressing the pedal tonight for a couple of minutes and see what happens.

Got some dot 4 and topped it up, light no longer comes on under hard acceleration, job done.

Next problem, car keeps stalling when warmed up, it sort of idles erratically, from about 800 rpm down to about 100 sometimes, and then today when coming to roundabouts it cut out completely twice.

Its getting a service at the weekend and ive asked the bloke to look at the idle air intake valve as it may need cleaning, hopefully that plus the service should sort it.

Thanks for all the help (y)

Just rang mr clutch to see how much a lambda sensor would be and they told me to book it in for a scan as it may not be the lambda, is it worth getting it scanned, it costs £35

Also, is there a way to tell if the cambelt has been changed, been quoted £220, and i havent got any evidence that it was done at 72000 miles, the services only go up to 64000.

a scan is always a better method than an educated guess. in my experience its not unusual for a faulty lambda not to be picked up during a diagnostic (even a fiat dealer has suggested the lambda to me when a diagnostic failed to spot any fault even with the engine managent light illuminated on a mk2 punto) so if it spots nothing it reinforces the chances of the lambda been the issue.

£220 is expensive in my opinion, but it depends where you live and who you ask. definately have a ring about to see if you can get £70 knocked off.

So dya think i should just replace it anyway and save £35 on the scan, how much are lambda's btw? They look easy enough to fit.

i think you should test the lambda first, then you'll know if its faulty without doing a diagnostic. if its faulty replace it, if it isnt then get a scan done.

i know what your next question is, how do you test the lambda? well that information would be here already if i knew what model you have, but you didnt say, and its not in your sig, or on the bravo/a owners list thread.

you could also search fiatforum for "lambda" & "test" and you should find the appropriate method for your model, surely i've posted the lambda test for all models by now.

No, my next question was going to be oven chips or real chips?? Only joking, i shall search for the answer to the lambda question, thanks once again :D

definately low fat oven chips (y)
less than 5% fat before i smother them in kitchen towel.

if your search doesnt find it, let me know what engine you have and i'll post a test method for ya

I normally smother mine in tomato sauce but what ever takes ya fancy lol

I found a post on the sensor and it had a resolution, i hope its as easy as the post suggested, theres nothing worse than hoping the car wont cut out every time you come to slow down, well maybe having your head nailed to the desk would be worse but only just.

I have a 1.6sx 1998 model and from what i have read on here recently they seem to have quite a few common problems, if i can get this cutting out sorted i will be as happy as a dog with two d*cks :D

Ok, i have had a service done at the weekend but it hasnt solved the cutting out problem, once the car is up to temp it will cut out every time i put my foot on the clutch. (n)

It runs ok though apart from that, plenty power, good mpg's, just wont idle correctly, how much would it be to get the car put through a diagnostic?

its not cheap :(
fiat dealers charge £65 these days, you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but unless they have an examiner smart machine i wouldnt bother.

Yeah, ive been quoted £56 to put it on a diag machine for an hour from a back street garage.

I reckon its the lambda sensor, can i just disconnect it in the engine bay and run around in it to see if its the same?

I took a picture of the black box at the back of the engine bay, what is the lead i unplugged ringed (faintly) in red at the right handside of the box?

It doesnt appear to do much as the socket it plugs into doesnt have any connections or anything, but once i unplugged it the car didnt stall upon starting or on the short run i did, i think it maybe just coincidence.

In the next picture can someone tell me which one is the lambda sensor connection, i wish to disconnect it asap and see if its that causing my engine cutting out problems
