Bottom End Gone!!!

took my car back to the garage i bought it from (bought it a month ago) so they can sort out the loud rattly noise under warranty. listening to it they say it sounds like the bottom end has gone. not sure what this does but im sure its expensive. what would cause the bottom end to go- and is it expensive??

yep very expensive either an engine rebuild for u or a new engine

it must have had some real abuse/neglect for the bottom end to go

oh well good thing its under warrenty

should correct myself- it hasnt gone. i can still drive it. but its noisy. there's a knocking sound like loud tappets.

Mine does that too, but only seems to do it in winter (REALLY cold weather) as soon as the engine gets warm it goes away. I took it back to fiat and they said it was just piston slap or something like that after taking it out for a drive.

(because it was under warranty and they didnt want to do anything with it)

Tappetty noise comes from the top end

Its not uncommon for engines to be noisy when cold, all the clearances are wrong and nothing quite fits right.

Once its hot and all the parts have expanded to the correct size it will quieten down, this is actually perfectly normal.
