Technical Boot mechanism...

Boot mechanism replaced this morning, took just over an hour. They also said they were doing a campaign (I'm sure that's what the Receptionist called it, definitely not a recall) on the coils for the Twin Air. They were replaced today as well. I'll start a new thread on this, so as not to go off topic.

Well I reckon ours is going to fail sooner rather than later, it did it a couple of times this morning again. Although it has since worked OK when I press the top button on the fob. Legendary!

I do wonder exactly how widespread this problem is? I mean, there aren't exactly loads of us on here and virtually everyone has suffered from this problem!

Also - noted Most Easterly Panda's post earlier on about it not being covered when out of warranty. That may well be the case, but if it is something that keeps on failing every five or six months then I will not be happy at all in a couple of years time.

It's clearly a defective part, but hopefully it is just down to a dodgy batch of parts used for these early versions....hopefully!

It certainly sounds like a part that needs reworking - and I'm not normally one to jump of the wagon of 'its a massive fault' but it certain sounds like it could turn out to be.

Anyone got a pic of said defective part out of interest? Is it a push button Fiat badge like fitted of other Fiat models

Haven't got a picture I'm afraid but basically it's the same as the one on the 500 and the previous Panda (2003-2012, not sure which Mk so I won't say!).

See post 5 on this 500 thread, also click on the link there to another thread which is the same; this has a picture by jrkitching of the latching mechanism which is the same as the one in the new Panda:

It's not one of the push button badges though.

Picked up two brand new Pandas on Friday (pics to come :)), remembered this thread and checked...both have the fault...will have to ring for service on Monday.

Just been out to check. The top button unlocks all doors and allows the latch of the boot to open the boot, whereas the bottom button 'pops' up the boot and allows the boot to be lifted with or without using the 'latch'.

Ooops sorry catnash...dislike accident with my fat phone fingers!

Mine has also failed in the manner of others on this forum. More worrying on o couple of occasions the door open light has come on when driving and on stopping I have found the rear door open to the latch.

Geoff.

count me in, mine failed today, not happy with that at all. i like the car but the quality is starting to dissapoint me.. hope thah this will be the last fault i have.

It's a newly produced car and you've a warrentee. Get over it.

Not a single newly produced car out there which dosen't have teething problems

what are you talking about? i had 3 cars before the panda and not a single problem (ford focus mk 1 and mk 2 and ford fiesta mk 5). also the boot mechanism is a known problem since the fiat 500, a car that was produced 5 years ago.. does anybody know do the up,citigo,mi have similar problems?

Just an observation but after many years of Audi, VW and BMW products I am after 4 months pretty impressed with the overall build quality of this Panda and this TA is way more fun than it has any right to be at the price. And yes my boot latch has failed.

Geoff.

And each and every one of those cars you purchased within the first few months of their launch did you

The part is completly different to the mk3 Panda and 500, their faults cannot nessecarily be directly related. If the same part then fair enough, but they're not as far as I'm aware.
