Hi all.

I've recently fitted a Tow Bar to my Stilo and now need to wire in the Electrics.

I've got a 7 way bypass relay as one is suppost to use on CAN BUS electrical systems. This requires a Live feed though.

Now I'm concidering just running straight from the battery (fused of course) but was wondering if there was already a constant live in the boot.

I understand the earlier Stilo's has power outlets in the boot. Question one, were these ignition switched like the front ones and question two, although my facelift Stilo hasn't got one, is the wiring likly to be there?

Any other ideas for a contant live feed in the boot?

Jon.

My trailer hook has a live wire drawn from the fusebox in the dash. It is hooked or soldered into a thick red wire already in there. Done by FIAT. Can find some pictures somewhere...

Power from fuse box.

Well my electrics are all done, installed and working now :)

And guess what I found behind the rear O/S light. Only a constant Live feed going to nowhere :p

So I decided to chop the connector off and wired it into the 7way bypass relay like so

Well pleased :D

I can only assume it's been put there for use with an 'add-on' wiring loom that Fiat may have used to wire in towbar electrics

Those fu**ers. They told me they had to do massive work to install that wire. Damn I'm a bit annoyed now. This is the exact same wire I've got with the same plug. So this one has propably been there all the time, and all they did was plug-and-play.

If you have not yet started the electrics then I suggest running TWO separate feeds directly from the battery (both fused) to the rear of the car and the 7 way bypass relay. Two feeds are for 1) basic light circuits and 2) for caravan electrics. If you don't have or ever expect to have a caravan then the single feed is OK.

could that be the connector for the boot 12v socket that was taken out in the later model stilos ?

I don't think so, as the Aux socket in the earlier Stilo's is mounted on the other side of the boot.

Someone with an early Stilo with one, can they confirm if it's ignition switched or not in the boot for the Aux socket like on the center console?

Ta for the advise. As you can see in my pics though, all was finished yesterday. Used it all today to ferry rubbish to the local tip with a trailer and all works well :) Never plan on towing a caravan and plan on only having single electrics, so will keep it as it is.

Aux socket is on the left side in the boot. I've got one. 180 watts max it says.

I think the red wire is constant 12V (not switched at all) as I have had some issues with the trailer hook. Lights on the trailer was still on with the key in my pocket... Something wrong then, but I'm hoping for a new black circuit box back there to fix it.

Can check this.

Well, we have a new member in the family, a Dethleffs Campy. :D

After having major issues with the trailer hook electrics I fond the whole socket to be wired mirrored. So much for paying £ 800 GBP for it to be taken care of by a FIAT garage.

The install is pretty simple plug and play, except one cable has to be connected to the pink wire going up the boot lining, for the fog lights to work. This one was connected (by the FIAT garage) to the pink wire from the left light cluster, which is the side repeater. The control unit went bananas ofcourse. And since the permanent battery pin was mirrored, the rear left light was constantly on - after removing the key = no Stilo start. :bang: The reversing lights connector was neatly rolled together, not connected to the connector from the right side cluster. (n) I guess the didn't find it, and found it a good idea to just stop searching. I am not very impressed.

Moral: Do it yourself.

Now to the question:

The Campy has got a fridge, and I'd like to have it working while driving. This means I need to connect pin 10 to the 13-pin socket. I was a bit upset when I found this one to be unconnected. Anyway, I'll have to route power to it, fuse it, and somehow make it ignition switched. Thanks to Argon, I found the aux socket in the boot to be ignition switched. I'd rather not take power from it, but make it send a signal to some sort of device that will trigger "power off" when I turn off the engine. Can someone point me in a direction of this thing? It has to exists... but I really don't know what it's called, or where to get it.

Is it not a simple case of using it to signal a relay to turn on / off power on another power circuit?

I am just about to do the wiring for a tow bar on my 1.9 JTD, fitted towbar yesterday took about 3 1/2 hours and wasn't as bad as I thought. Got the 7 way bypass relay just going to sort the wiring now.

oh yes they are called among other things a "smartcom" basically a voltage sensing relay which should be user adjustable Ryder make them too

wire your live and ground to the inputs and

your fridge and battery out to the other side

its on offer too (y)

edit just seen your last post :bang:

that relay is the same as in my Dads Focus

the adjuster is so you can set the voltage it switches over at with the ignition off having had the car run for 5 mins turn it slowly till it turns the supply to the outputs off

next restart the car and it should come back on this can take a bit of trial and error

Thanks, looking forward to the assembly.

Next question.

This blurred picture shows the rear left boot fuse box, with a strange "box" to the left. This one delivers + and - voltage, I have checked with my multimeter. Does anyone know the size of the cables for it, and how much current I can draw from it? The fridge line should be fused with 15A, so 180 watts should be enough. What is this "plug" ready for for anyway?

All very useful about the towbar wiring in the boot. I think I've got the magic spare wire in the boot to be a live feed for my towbar (just fitted the metalwork).
Anyway, my question is how far do i need to strip down the boot interior to get to all the wires I need to wire in my bypass relay and towbar socket? Do I need to strip out all the plastic from the sides for example?
Thanks
