Hi.
1st major Stilo fault !! 2003 1.9 Jtd.

Last night the weather was terrible, Lots of sections of roads were flooded, some levels reached over half the wheel height (according to my Mrs !!)
Now she assured me that she drove through them very steady ! Now driving today for the 1st time & whilst loading the Engine (3rd,4th & 5th Gear Etc) The check engine light appears, along with Bleeps & Engine Failure. From my turbo petrol days this has the same characteristics as overboost Fuel Cut.

Looking through Posts on here has highligted the overboost valve, Mine is still located down by the airbox, So i would imagine it got a good soaking last night. Can i just dry this out ? or will it be Fcuked ? & require a new one ? The car has always been a little hesitant (especially when cold) & i would imagine this valve is the original one !!I plan on relocating it also to the Battery box location..

Any help & idea's appreciated .
Cheers

The same thing happened to me, i think that i got the valve/sensor a bit wet, or somewhere within the engine.

It should hopefully eventually dry out and sort itself.

At least your car didnt break down in the floods and you had to wait about 2 hours for the aa to come out

Thats true, Im sure that would of really pleased my Mrs :D

Is your overboost valve still down by the Airfilter then in it's original location ??

Yeah it is, i havent really investigate to be honest :D

Theres nowt like getting out of your car and wading through flood water whilst all the other cars carry on past you

Seeing as this device is an electronic boost controller/solenoid has anybody removed this out of the equation by fitting a manual boost controller set to the same Psi Etc & fitted it in between the Wastgate & turbo ? & then connected the two boost pipes together at the valve ? The valve would then never see excessive boost & cut the engine, the manual boost controller would always regulate the boost to the desired level !!

Assuming that is what the overboost valve does of course ??

No more issues Maybe !!

You've got me baffled on this one

Rather than move it you want to redesign it

I'm sure even a main dealership wouldn't charge that much to move it (mine was done under warranty - as part of a service)

After all isn't it just an electronic bleed valve !!??
A decent adjustable mechanical boost controller can be purchased for £25.

I have just removed the overboost valve in preparation to relocate it, When i pulled the wastgate pipe off, the whole unit hissed as if it had become pressure/vacum locked. The overboost valve does indeed have water in it & is on the radiator as we speak.

Question re wastgate.

I was under the impression that positive boost pressure forces the wastgate penny open, realeasing excess pressure.
So if you pump air into the wastgate you should see the arm push out once the spring pressure has been reached exceeded !?

I pressurised mine & the arm moved about 1mm  Hmm do i also have a fcuked wastegate, Thats why im hitting fuel cut & the overboost valve is a red herring !!???

Cheers

Dean,
You don't say in your original post whether there was any change in engine sound, performance or feel.
I get the very occasional "engine warning" light and beep when the engine is on load,
4th/5th gear up hill and accelerating but i don't get any hesitation or juddy, i've put it down to my remap or a very small air leak somewhere.

There was not always a change, but sometimes the power dipped, As soon as i hear the Beep Beep, I back off without thinking, It's just my automatic reaction.

The Remap should not throw up a CEL, Is your overboost valve still located in the original location ?? If so i would definately get it relocated, As the weather is only going to get worse. I think mine was definately to blame & since relocating & drying it out it has not done it since. Mine has also been remapped.
It could be an air leak in a Boost/Vacum hose somewhere which is acting as a bleed valve under heavy load & making the Turbo boost to high. Best to start with the obvious.
