Hi there,

This is my first time on the forum but have followed it for quite some time now. Finally decided to join up. Knowledge not up to scratch, but guess thats why im here.

Recently started havin troubles with my 1992 model Uno fire (2dr).
Upon startup, I see blue smoke from the back of the car (exhaust). Even noticed it in the rearview mirror during accelaration. This only happened after changing spark plugs (NGK) and cleaning the carb with carb cleaner. Not entirely sure what the cause could be. Or just to mention, also idles a rough especially in the mornings.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Blue smoke usually means the engine is burning oil, does the oil level drop & need regular topping up or has it recently had an oil change and maybe overfilled?

The oil level is dropping but never below the minimum mark. It has been dropping for quite a while now and never had a smoking problem until recently. By recently I mean after changing the plugs and cleaning the carb. The last oil change was about 2000 km ago.

Well if you cant see any visible sign of a leak it's a safe bet to assume the blue smoke is oil burning.
I assume the oil you put in is the correct spec & not too thin for the miileage?
Carb cleaner would have burned off pretty quickly.
How many miles / kilometres on the engine?
You sure seem convinced the plugs are the problem, are they not the same as originally fitted?
If you kept the old ones try re-fitting them to satisfy your curiosity, or buy new to original equipment spec from your nearest dealer.

Thanks, Will definitely take your advice. the car has 265k on the clock and I m using a multigrade oil. Not sure about the spec. Do you think that a thicker oil would solve the problem or is it a go to the mechanic problem?

kind regards,

Try using the correct grade as per the Handbook if you have it. If not I'm sure there will be other replies from owners of similar cars on what the correct grade is, if the car has hydraulic tappets this is important, so I wouldnt advise a thicker oil at this point as that can affect the hydraulic tappets peformance, it may be time for an engine overhaul if that is 265k miles. That engine has done well wether miles OR kilometres! (y)

Maybe a compression test could be done to see if there is any valve or piston ring blow by.
