Technical Blown up... Help

Hiya all.

I've got what seems to be quite a rare model punto... I've got an 85SX 1.2 16V.
I'ts been sitting idle for about 4 years as I was driving along (after just picking up a new thermostat) and the temp shot of the red and my engine melted... I guess I need some advice on what parts to initially check. I'm guessing that the head will nead stripping, skimming and replacing. Complete oil & water drain and refill. Coolant & thermostat replacement, and thats all I can think of? If anyone has any ideas please help. I really want to get her back up and running. I literally had bought a set of new coilovers for her, she's got a set of Pireli P Zero- Nero's waiting on custom painted Team Dynamic wheels as well. It used to be a bit of a rude boy car... Now I've grown up (a bit), I really want to get it running so I can track day it. If anyone could help or advise that would be amazing. I really want a summer project & it's sitting there looking at me screaming "help me!!!"

Do a compression test. Pulling the head will nilly is plain daft. Cheap testers around £15 on eBay.

I've charged it all up and the electrics are working fine but as soon as i turn the key it dies completely and makes the most awful noise.

Could have seized. Try removing the spark plugs, putting it in second gear, and pushing it. Does the engine turn over? Any horrible noises?

I can't believe my luck to be honest, i tried removing the spark plugs earlier & one of the leads has snapped right down in the pot and i cant get anything on it to pull it out so I really don't know what to do.

Try cutting if off with a craft knife (one of the pound shop ones should have something thin enough) or a 1/4" wood chisel (by hand). Persevere and you'll get it off in the end.

Not unknown for the 16v ones to sort of "cook on".

Sounds like a plan, didn't thing of a small wood chisel down the side. Cheers. I'll let you know how I get on.

Looks like I'm going to have to take the thing apart to be able to get the plug out. Ive had no joy at all. All good fun playing with cars right...
