Is it just down to that thick Hammerite gooey paint I'm using, cos if I can't figure a way of keeping the little bastards from appearing, I'll have to sand the f**kers down again and take them to the bodyshop to be finished

Just sand and sand and sand and sand until you get down to the bare metal. Then use a metal primer over the top (I used a plasikote one). Put a couple of those on then some mtal spray. Once again I used Plastikote metal spray in matt black.

Been looking like new for a few months now :)

Spent all bloody last night sanding them back. At least if opt to spray (paint again) the outside, I'll have treated the internal face thoroughly (no wonder corrosion was rife, sponge was retaining all the damp)

I'm such a monkey spanner. What made me think i could achieve a satisfactory finish with brushes!!???

Cheers guys

Tis ok.

1st 2 attempts of mine I didnt bother sanding fully and paid for it in the end. I've now learned that its worth spending the extra time in the prep - saves u doing them again (and again and again)

Spraying ain't that hard. If you are spraying aluminium then you really should use an etch primer.

It never ceases to amaze me (not having been one for lavishing such attention on any car owned before the hgt cometh) how a simple job can turn into a mammoth task.

The inside was even more corroded than the outside. Spent hours with motorised grinder and three different heads to clean them up, not to mention the three grades of paper used to get the surface back to a polished base.

Pimed em last night, then numb nuts ere goes and uses a brush (saw the hammerite in halfords and didn't think twice about using a spray. DOH! Spesh since I've just re-sprayed all the boot internals - and wouldn't have considered doing that with a brush).

Everything, and I mean EVERYthing, is guna be finished by the wknd (oh how I must laugh, since has taken me the best part of six months to get done, I planned out originally to take o longer than a single week!:))

I got a good finish on mine with a brush and didn't even use a primer.

V kind of you to offer Andy. If you want to pop round tomorrow evening, I'll let you do my paint chips too! ;)
