Panda (Classic) Black Panda Wanda 1000CL Formula 91

Introduction

Hi All,

After over 2 year on this forum I've finally decided to set members motors thread for my Panda as I'm currently doing some body works.
Some of them may have some benefits to other forum users, and it will be a bit easier for me to ask an advice.

As some of you know as seen my Panda personally it is not bad example, but as most of them she is not perfect.

On the last MOT test this June I've been told by the tester that there is small rust hole at the inner sill/ floor recognized as an advisory.
So, lets have a closer look....

At that time I was aware of small (20mm) outer sill bottom edge flange missing, but I was wrong as that was not the only one rust point.

Thats how it looked like, the hole was enlarge by only using my fingers - yellow marking is still visible. After having a play with screwdriver and angle grinder - situation seams to be under control.

No, it's not.
As you can see there is a right mess under the jacking point, and the far end of jacking point itself is badly corroded same as the cross membrane.

And the jacking point

The following plan for is :
- cut the and of the membrane, to gain clear access to the floor and inner sill,
- repair floor and inner sill section under the membrane,
- weld in the rest of the floor and inner sill cut out,
- fabricate cross membrane section and weld it back in to original position,
- repair jacking point using 3mm thick steel,
- spot weld jacking point back to ori position,
- prepare surrounding area for stone chip paint, closed profile conservation, etc...

Now I'm after some 1.5mm steel sheet for the membrane rebuild, and 1-1.2mm for floor/sill.

Any suggestions, tips&trics are welcome.
Good point mate.

I think it is doable, but it is highly likely that reshiming will be required to do proper job and get clearance values correct. I've got number of spare shims but can't guarante that will be done within 2 hours.

Rearranging the old shims and possibly few new values should sort us out. So 2h max

Quick question re 4x4 cam in 2wd 999cc.
Do I need to re-jet carb?
4x4 cam in but it does hesitate to accelerate and keep staling at stoping.
#firstcary10
Nope, runs fine with standard jets. Idle may be a little rougher, mine's never been the smoothest, but should still pull OK. Maybe double check you haven't shifted the cam timing a tooth or 2 swapping over.

Unfortunately been forced to swap car to Sisley this morning ( in heavy rain of course ).
Engine was stalling in every possible place.

I'll look into this in the afternoon. Re re-jeting I migh just swap whole carb to the 32 TLF 8/250 as i purchased few recently.

Weird thing is that Fiat pdf doc does not indicate different values between 6/250 and 8/250 unit, I'll start with the checking timming and setting TDC as the cam's angles are totaly different.

Old cam belt was stretched, so last dizzy position was way out. Set to 2*TDC and out for spin to Oliver Mount to fine tune. +5hp is not much but ther is definately beter respond from 3,5k to 4,8k RPM. 60MPH easily in 3rd gear.

As some of you may know,( firstcarY10 )I had some issues with Black Panda Wanda, she was hesitating to adapt the 4x4 camshaft preety badly!
It started on our way back from Andy's place almost two weeks ago.

It was absolutely clear that something is not right when Ula was strugling to drive up this hill https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.5...Ep37BXZRsX3GlVQKwlgw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=pl
car was constanly stalling in secong gear full throttle ( Runswick Bay/ Royal Hotel is on my list when Panday/Green laning weekend will be organised here). Car was hesitating to smoothly accelerate between 2k -3k RPM and some flat spots were noticible. Valve clerance was recheck after few hundret mile- just to be sure-all within specified tolerance, carbd cleaned in situ, both idle jets swaped number of times for smaller or bigger size, ignition module, dizzy pickup sensor, dizzy internal springs, spark plugs, HT leads etc. Mixture screw was altered number of time and it all give fu@# All- Problem was still there.

HOT/COLD air flap in front section of air box had few milimeters play on the termostatic plunger allowing vaccum to lift it up and suck hot air.

Spare air box was borrrowed from Sisley as Sisley as going on SORN from tomorrows day ( lift kit application process).

It must be the cam timing surely! it's the only thing you've changed! You've made sure the timing marks still line up? is the camshaft pulley on straight? If everything else worked before it really should now. The airbox thing is a complete red herring, the car will run absolutely fine this time of year without that flap even being there. My summer airbox doesn't have one

Old cam belt was stretched, so last dizzy position was way out. Set to 2*TDC and out for spin to Oliver Mount to fine tune. +5hp is not much but ther is definately beter respond from 3,5k to 4,8k RPM. 60MPH easily in 3rd gear.
See this doesn't say to me the old belt was stretched, it says the cam timing is different!

Just drove 20 miles to work, number of hills, few streights and some bends as well, all seems to be back to normal. No single flat spot or hesitation, car will accelerate in 4th gear from 2k RPM up to small incline.

My theory is that the old 2wd camshaft was coping with incresed mixture temperature, but 4x4 with longer opening and different profile was strugling.

I might be wrong, but different air box solved my problems.

Done nearly 500 miles this weekend. Full size Berlingo roof rack strapped to top of my panda looked great. Aquamarine's mens cave been visited as well.

On the way back vaccum advance unit packed up completely, hose was temporally pluged off, even with that going wrong panda done 47.7mpg on average so not bad.

Still in process of finding best tune setup.

On my last journey home i've brought panda rotisserie with me.

As it served well to Aquamarine and is surplus to him now it's going to stay with me for a while. No urgent actions for them but withing few full moon phases Black Panda will be hung on them and second sill of Sisley must be done sometime.
NO more above head weding!
Now primed in red oxide and being finished in bright red. Will look new for years.

D. do you know their max load capability?
