found bio diesel today fully legal etc being sold for 99p a litre, of course with the current prices of fuel im relly tempted to go for this ,i have a 1.9 jtd 54 plate. can you tell me is this safe for my engine please.

thanks in advance.

my mate got confirmation that he could use it in his clio, so he did, and after 3 or 4 weeks, the car died, and wont start, it cost him close to £1000 to fix. And after 2 weeks the engine siezed, and he got quoted double to fix the 2nd time round. Dunno if this is just úber bad luck, or something to do with the bio diesel.

I was just about to ask the same question - has anyone tried this on a Stilo?

Friend of mine is running 100% veg oil in a merc 250D, and it runs fine! But then it is an older car so hence built better! Was thinking of a 40L diesel, 10L veg oil mix....?

I had the impression that you had to have a car specifically designed for bio diesel as it attacks the fuel hoses and fuel pump on standard diesels?

French, Explains it all, lol.

this is proper bio diesel im talking about not some home made veg oil mix, mind you i used to do that in my old laguna and it ran like a dream with it in, ive looked on loads of sites to check the stilos ok but had no joy , as im off to france next week in it i dont think ill take the risk eh.but 99p a litre is bloody good.

im going to be using this soon, probably in a 60/40 mineral to bio ratio.

and thats properly treated stuff, made to EU spec

Put 2l of EN14214 standard bio into 20l yesterday (so 10% ish) and not had any problems in my 150. Am going to get a couple of jerry cans full and experiment to see if/where the limit is for my car.

Having looked at the tech specs the viscosity (which is thought to be the issue for using bio and to a greater extent veg oil in modern high pressure fuel systems) at 40C is identical for bio and mineral diesel, i'm not sure about 15-25C though! Pretty sure there are reports of people using pure bio in JTDs. Certainly the 2.4 unit in the 156. If VAG cars with the PD engines can run it then JTD *should* be ok, no gaurentees though.

I will try get a sample and take it into work to run some tests.

By the way, pure veg oil is a bad idea on high pressure fuel systems like the Mjet (and possibly the JTD) as it WILL blow up your fuel pump. You might be able to run a mix but it honestly isnt worth it. Fine for older diesels though!

Can't wait to see how your car runs on biodiesel! With the spiraling cost of diesel which seems to be going up by 1p everyweek here!

Wonder how much diesel will be by the end of this year

Well if they're right in saying petrol will be 150ppl by Sept, then Diesel will be atleast 175ppl by the end of 08:(

It's criminalm I hope we have a repeat of 2000's blockades soon.

good man you (y)

where did you get it from and how much?

Place called BioFlo in Rochdale. They dont like answering their phone and looked shut from the front but i found a nice lady round the back in wellies covered in degreaser (don't ask). Actually put in 2.5l but only charged me for 2! It's 99.9p/l usually

Am off to a place in Liverpool next week to pick up a load and do some experiments! I figure i've reached the limit if/when it starts to run rough.

i rang angel tuning yeterday they advised i do a 50/50 mix normal and bio, thing is the garage thats doing it is a 55 mile round trip so wont be saving that much if i do , thing is i thought all disel engines were able to run on this stuff , its not just a mix of chip oil its the real mcoy ,so im a bit lost as to why all disels cant run onit ,what would be the worst case scenario if anything went wrong then.

One thing is lack of lubricant for the fuel pumps / injectors.

Thought it provided more lubricity than standard diesel?

Other issue (and my main concern) is clogging of fuel lines/injectors and extra strain on fuel pump due to higher viscosity at operating temp.

If it did clog then would need a bleed like if you put petrol in by accident!

So would I be safe with a 40L diesel/10L veg oil mix? Or is it best to avoid Veg oil on modern engines?

How can I find my nearest Biodiesel garage?

Avoid veg oil if at all possible!

surprised nobody has seen this advert below it was up here the only thing theyve missed out of the advert is you have to wash the diesel when its processed which is quite easy with a fine spray of water which you have to do 2or3 times to clear the glycerine(soap) then you have loads of soft soap to wash your hands with after youve finished messing about with your car. JTDs are fine with this diesel Ive only mixed it about 30% in my Marea you have to change your diesel filter after about 100mile because it cleans all the crap out of your pipes (alright if you have bronchitis) and it lubricates like ordinary diesel could never do making the engine quieter no carbon so no black smoke(smells nice though) and you will feel the difference in the way it goes http://www.yorkshiregreenfuels.co.uk/index.asp

Kind of a side line.

But the government introducing the bio diesel has meant other stuff like bread etc. has gone up due to the process in making it.

Its all a huge circle.

I'm hoping for a strike to sort the prices out.

In egypt its about 20p a litre!!!! (1.30 LE a litre - exchange rate = 1 Egyptian pound = 0.0957237213 British pounds)
