I don't really understand much about oils and their meanings.

But I found a store that sells these very cheap

-5L Selenia 20k 10w40 Semi-synthetic API SL/CF; FIAT 9.55535; MB 229.1; ACEA A3 98

-5L Castrol Edge Sport 10w60 100% synthetic API SM/CF; ACEA A3/B3/B4

which is better for the abarth?
or should I keep using selenia 20K despite the better one ?

thanks

selenia 20K is the better one
Might be the original specified oil, for an Abarth, but not sure I'd ever refer to a semi-synthetic compared to a fully synthetic as the better oil

Selenia racing is the correct on for the abarth.
Makes the choice real easy then ;)

Selenia Racing is 10W/60 so go for the Castrol Edge (y)

no what ever Selenia are saying to use will be the right one now, a lot of peoples books for 16v 1.2 and 1.4 say 10w/40 but Selenia revised that too.

pnls link dont work for me it says Errore: Impossibile trovare un mezzo con costruttore associato alla marca di id:3

castrol wont be developing their oils using fiat engines, but Selenia will be ;)

A key issue with the Abarth in my experience (and I think many others) is oil consumption. The engine is designed for a bit of oil to get past the rings (as with a lot of italian performance engines). But the thicker the oil, the less the consumption. Fiat's specification of 10w60 (Selenia Racing) is, I presume, the best compromise between enough oil consumption and not too much.

My own "Abarth" (actually a 2.4 Prestigio) now runs on Selenia Racing. Prior to that it had a good few years of running on thinner Selenia 20k - because that's what the dealer (used to doing Puntos and Pandas) had. This had no ill effects, apart from rather high consumption (maybe a pint every 500-1000 miles or so of fast road use). That has been moderated now by using the thicker oil.

If you look after your engine in terms of watching the oil level and changing the oil frequently (I prefer 6 months to a year), then it probably doesn't matter a great deal. But always worth going with the manufacturers' recommendation; they generally have good reasons.

My link clearly show selenia 20k for the 1.2 and 1.4 [as I have always stipulated]not the wide range crap the dealer tries to palm you off with so they can charge you more..;)

It's like the earlier Abarth engines aswell - 8 valve twincams used much oil, at least on ours (RIP). High temperature makes the oil more liquid (difficult to translate my thought here...), so going for 60 is a good choice - thicker at high temp. (y)

In that case Castrol Edge 10W/60 is the right choice for the OP since the other option is the wrong grade (according to Selenia)

Car manufacturers specify API & ACEA specs for engine oil to allow choice of oil (irrespective of manufacturer) and Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic rates as one of the very best if not the best oil in the market.

That said, if oil consumption is low then I think I'd be inclined to stick with 10W/40 or simply follow the advice of other Abarth owners concerning the move to higher viscosity.

my consumption is about 0,25L every 1000km. I go easy on the car most of the time.

perhaps I'll stick to 20k then.
