Technical Belt + tensioners of timing system - changing

Hey everybody.

Has somebody changed the belt and tensioners of timing system on your own yet?

Do I really need that special tool - nut for securing the camshaft?

How could the camshaft move??? The engine´s compression has to hold it in the same position. Or do not?

The lobes of the camshaft will be compressing the valve springs and won't be in balance. The only thing stopping the camshaft rotating is the belt (when the engine is stationary).

As to having to use the special tool, I would have thought that an alternative could be used, if you have the right skills and tools available. Even if it is something very crude like grips.

Careful marking of the relavent sprockets etc before removing the old belt should ensure correct re-assembly alignment.

Yes I'll be doing mine quite soon. It's not the end of the world if components move a little while you're changing the belt and tensioner as long as you make marks before you start and everything lines up again the same at the end

I should think the 1.2 (I've done those engines) and 1.6 will be straightforward and maybe the 1.4 but people who have engines with variators will have to be careful and will take some extra locking up of components
