Hi there,

I had a high pitch squealing noise coming from the engine which would get a tiny bit quieter when the clutch was depressed- drove fine & pulled lovely but the loud noise was too much.

I thought it was the clutch & so began removing the gearbox & found nothing wrong inside, so put it back together.

Now; when connecting the battery back up and turning the key in the ignition, I have nothing what so ever- can’t see a bad earth or blown fuse anywhere.

Begging for someone with knowledge to help, even better, I’d happily pay someone to come help me get it fixed- BS34 area.

Please help!

Many thanks, Vince.

Sounds like you forgot to reconnect the starter motor earth cable that is held down by one of the clutch slave cylinder bolts. Easy to miss as it's black

Water pumps seals/bearings can make a horrible squealing.

Use a listening stick to check all suspects including the gearbox input area. The 'box input bearings can fail though would be expected to rattle rather than squeal.

Affected by the clutch ?

Coincidence? Don't rule anything out for the sake of listening.

The OP said the noise was "a tiny bit quieter" when clutch depressed. Really(?) or did that just slightly change the engine speed so affected another noise source.

He also said the clutch was fine so reassembled. I'm assuming he was not daft enough to take it all apart and then not change the wearing parts which cost 1/2 of 2p.
