Our poor 500 has been having a hard winter and needs some TLC...

The exhaust back box fell off last week, annoyingly just before the snow, when the 500 is the only car in the fleet on winter tyres... Then the battery went flat. Of course it went flat when parked on the drive too far away from the house to plug in the charger. So I had to remove the battery, in the process I snapped the stud on the battery clamp.

I got the battery charged and the car to the garage for a new exhaust, but I need to sort the battery tray - is this an DIYable job for someone with a basic knowledge and toolbox? Where is good to get Fiat parts, ideally online? I have seen the correct part used on eBay, but prefer to buy new parts (we have had the car for 9 years, from new, and it is a keeper).

I also need to replace the trim ring around the gear gaitor, is that an easy job too?

Got the parts together to do the jobs over the weekend. Last night I went to move the 500 in to the garage, but the battery was flat again. At least it was easy to remove this time, with not battery clamp.

The battery is 3.5 years old, with a 4 year warranty from ECP, all I need to do now is find the receipt...

If you bought it via the website then receipt can be got from 'Your Account' if you paid over the counter then best of luck :)

The gearlever gaiter ring replacement was easy. As was the battery tray replacement. I did have a slight panic when I realised the part I'd bought off eBay, was actually different and slightly bigger than the one I took off the car.

The new part was from a later car, so I'm hoping it is because Fiat improved the part! Fortunately the mounting points were the same and everything seems to fit.

I think you bought the one for the bigger start stop battery.
